Des & Dan — Restaurant in Pondok Aren

I am not having the best experience here, not bad, but not the best. I came around 14.00 and it is very crowded inside. They have outdoor seating which is not an option for the sane people in this sunny day. They have second floor, but only for big group or reservation.

Food quality is great, all of them taste superb. Breads are amazing, one of the best in town. Drinks are also great, no complaints at all. Just a little note, a lot of the menus are sharing for two. It is not that big, but surely it's too big for me alone. The decor are cool and beautiful, I love it, the decor that is. My sister wasn't impressed at all, me too, but still like it.

Now on to the bad ones. The noise in the room is VERY loud. It is not a glass room, they use a lot of bricks wall, which should have absorb most noises, but NO, seems like these bricks is just decorative plastered in a flat wall. I did not enjoy the atmosphere at all. The server are nice, they are friendly, fast to respond, and they can explain the menu which really helps, but since it is very loud, we had to speak louder just to speak with the server.

To be honest about my experiences, I ordered kebab, the server have to repeat a few times to confirm, which leads to me needed to point which menu it is, instead of speaking out loud. They confirm my order, repeated it, and somehow it is not in my order list. Yes I did not receive my kebab, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is rui- I'm kidding, anyway, out with the meme, on to the review. I didn't get my kebab and I'm tight on schedule, kinda disappointed, didn't re-order my kebab, because my family can't finish most main dish and I'm full just by sharing food. We ordered, mushroom soup, sautéed mushroom on bread, mushroom cheese pizza, pesto pasta, goulash pasta, it is a lot already. Also, yes, the order rather took a long time. Here is not a good place for a quick eat and go, except you are just buying bread to go.

Let's talk about hygiene. The overall place are clean, table is clean and tidy when we came. Problem is, we got a dirty cutlery, not 1 or 2, most of it have some leftover sauce still sticking. Toilets are outside, and it is not clean, it was slippery. And clearly they don't have anyone in charge of cleaning all the time, only periodically. Thankfully it is not smelly.

So how about price? I would say mediocre. I really love the food and drinks, they taste good. Since they serve in a bigger portion, the price are quite reasonable, but it is not cheap by any means. But what a restaurant sell is not just food, but also the atmosphere. I did not enjoy the experience, which makes me concluded that this place is expensive.

Will I come back? No, well maybe yes. But if there is any other restaurant that also serve Turkish dish with taste as good as here, I would never come back, especially bread. I just hope the next time I came back here, I will have a...

We have been a Des & Dan lovers ever since their store were in Pasar Modern Sektor 9, Bintaro Avenue and now in their own place that is 10 times more bigger than the 1st. Congratzz Des & Dan, totally a big achievement. As a loyal customer, we’re glad to be part of their journey :)

What we love for take aways: multigrain wheat bread, we always buy this which we usually eat for breakast. sourdough cream cheese, one of the best in town. cranberry & cheese bagel, as a bagel lover we love the texture and blended taste of cheese and cranberry. Deserve to be the best in town.

Dine in: The atmospehere, unfortunately we have to give a 3 stars. Inside the resto its actually spacious, but maybe because there were a lot of people eating there. So for us, it became too packed and crowded. We could not enjoy eating our meal. They also have an outdoor seating, which is good. But because the weather were so hot in noon. It may not be an option. However, this situation is a beyond control for Des & Dan. Overall, they already did a good job in providing more seating area and musholla for praying. the food, we ate Sultana and mushroom cheese pizza. The taste were great, especially Sultana, a mix of bread, meat and greek yoghurt.. Yum. The portion were big for 2 person, so we bring the leftovers for takeaways. Besides bread, they also serve Mediterannean menus and Turkish coffee. We haven’t try it yet, maybe in our next visit.
