Koenokoeni Cafe Gallery — Restaurant in Semarang

Beautifully classically decorated restaurant in a cozy neighbourhood complimented with a splendid view of Semarang over the hills at the backyard.

Ambience: classic, cozy, royal.

The decors and furnitures are fantastically chosen to bring you time-travel to Indonesia in the 1920s to 1980s. You can even find a range of Vespas as decors here! I'd say this place is EXCELLENTE for pre-wedding photo sessions and even video-sessions!! Under the professional photographer fingers, the photos and vid could be magical.

Food: excellent dining experience for the taste & presentation of the food. Some of the best that Semarang has to offer.

Toilets: clean, quite well maintained toilets. Although only 1 toilet per gender for the guests.

Price: reasonable for such fine dining experience with satisfactory delicacy. (Around 60 to 500K idr per person; average is 150-250K per person.

House menu: barracuda sambal matah, nasi babat gongso, nasi campur Koenokoeni, the range of wagyu steaks of course, and many more, including the must-try ice cream dessert. They have their own ice creams which are very very tasty. Unique: tolak angin flavored ice creams.

Minus: takes quite a long time to wait for the food to come. The venue makes you forget time coz your eyes are spoiled here. When we came in a big group, 1 order got mixed and i ended not getting the ice cream flavor i wanted. And when i wanted to buy again, that flavor ran out.

Tips; need to rapidly check the restaurant people for our orders.

What else: they got a souvenir store that sell fancy batiks, accessories and goodies, quite pricey. Budget: at least medium high. Value for money: totally worth the fine dining experience. Overall: totally...

KoenoKoeni is one of the unique cafe in Semarang. This is a cafe with the combination of the gallery. The gallery found from beginning when you enter the cafe, in terrace you'll find the old chevy and also the batik collection at the front desk. In the center of cafe a display cabinets filled with old cups, radios, etc. At the backyard, the cafe was set with open space with the view of city of Semarang. The views was magnificent during the night time. In this backyard you'll find the old vespas, old motocycles and traditional music instruments.

The word of KoenoKoeni is from the two word "Koeno" which means "Old" and "Koeni" which means "very old" - hope i got the right translation :-)

The cafe offers the Javanese traditional food like Nasi campur Koenokoeni, Nasi putih empal, fried shrimp, onion/lombok sambal, shrimp crackers, etc. Also the western food like Wagyu beef on the hot stone, etc.

Went for diner (27-12-2018) Good restaurant with authentic classic old style design and collection But service not so good, I go there with my husband the restaurant was full the waitresses not even welcome us to find table or unless tell us that need to wait bit for the table. About 20 minutes after we trying to figure out what is going on, waitress is coming ask us what she can do. We was thinking it maybe going good because busy, but we come not on the right time. After we got table not even 1 of the worker give us menu and Take to long to get order, especially if went busy they messed up the order, I request my drink and appetizer to come first, but they serve the main first before my drink come out, take almost 20 minutes every meal, because they not serve it together.
