In my opinion, this restaurant serves the best curry in Surabaya, the curry is served just right, not too hot that you couldn't enjoy it right away, but hot enough to impart a nice smell and adds the spiciness of the dish. This week alone I went twice, ordering chicken katsu and pork katsu, while the meat quality isn't that great, it's cooked properly resulting in a crispy, golden brown deliciousness. In addition, the rice (Japanese rice) is cooked just right. I'd say the food is on par with Coco Curry, which is currently only available in Jakarta.
HOWEVER, the place does could do a bit of improvement.
Starting with the ambience. Sitting near the kitchen you could faintly smell something unpleasant. The music choice is rather odd for a restaurant, too loud, complemented with ad after a few songs, I think they used the free version of a certain music streaming service.
The food, as I mentioned earlier, was great. Actually the curry and rice was great. The meat was not so good, pork was a little bit tough in some bites, while the chicken was a bit dry. The cheese topping does not impart anything to the dish, I don't know what kind of cheese they used, but it blends with the sauce and there's no trace of cheese at all. In the same week I went, the Japanese tea is sold out. Did they not restock for the weekend? The restaurant is literally above a Japanese supermarket, they could just run downstair, buy a pack of green tea, and run back up in less than 5 minutes.
For an average price of IDR 100k per person (sans drink, 15k and above), I think this restaurant is overpriced. The price is comparable with Japan, while having perhaps 75% of the quality. At least in Japan you get free water / tea.
Side note, while parking is free, the supermarket charges maybe IDR 1 or 2k for toilet usage, rather odd.
Curry house is also serving ramen (IDR 80-90k) and Japanese-italian style...
Read moreUsed to be good but now the service is terrible. Takes more than 30 minutes to serve 3 plates of curry on a empty restaurant (it is nighttime) . Food comes out warm, not hot, and food is not that good anymore. How can they took more than 30 minutes to serve 3 plates of curry? I ordered a salad and it is not colorful nor fulfilling. The staffs are slow, they are not around, and when they do, they don't responded quite well. I hate to say that this placed used to sell delicious curry, but I do not recommend this place due to lack of service, food quality has dropped quite significantly, and pricing is still the same....
Read moreVery, very slow service. The waitress who took our order went home and the other staff were not responsive. We waited for more than 30 minutes for our food to come. Luckily, the food was still warm when it reached our table. We also ordered salad, which wasn't that impressive. The restaurant itself wasn't busy and the waitstaff were just standing around, doing nothing. It took us all 10 minutes to eat the food (that we waited for more than half an hour) because it was very late and we were starving. Overall, the quality of the food is not that great, but the service is...
