Empal Pengampon — Restaurant in Surabaya

This depot is quite legendary in Surabaya, selling various kinds of food such as porridge, noodles, bakwan and especially a must try is the Nasi Empal (beef cooked in spices making it dry and tasty, served shredded).

The price offered is relatively quite expensive but the portion served is quite a lot with good taste.

Pesan bubur ayam dan nasi empal. Lagi makan bubur ayam di mulut terasa sesuatu ternyata bagian potongan penggosok wajan yg terbuat dari aluminium. Lapor ke tukang masak, bilang maaf sambil senyum. Ke kasir utk bayar, yg punya tidak bilang maaf hanya oh ya itu bagian utk cuci panci, bilang terimakasih setelah process pembayaran full total nilai 32rb nasi empal + 22rb bubur ayam.

Ordered chicken porridge and nasi empal, while eating the porridge I felt something rough on tongue, I took it out found it was part of the aluminium scrubber which was used for scrubbing the cooking pan. Went to let the employees know, she smilingly said sorry, I went to the cashier which seems the owner, he didnt say sorry or show appologetic only said "ohh it was part of the pan scrubber" and said thank you after proceeding the total full payment....

Good food. Price is OK for the portion, IDR 30k for Nasi Empal (sweet shredded meat w/rice), and IDR 25k for Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge) with boiled/raw egg. The place is not so hard to find, despite not being in the main street: go in an alley marked Pengampon II, there's a traditional snack stall sitting at the entrance of the alleyway.
