The aesthetic of the restaurant and the food itself were honestly impressive but that’s where the positives end. The service was absolutely disappointing and nowhere near the standard you’d expect from a place that clearly puts effort into its presentation.
We weren’t asking for anything outrageous, just basic things like chili, hot water, cold water, and even spoons. And somehow, the response to every single request was just, “Sorry, we don’t have.” No spoons? In a restaurant? That’s not just unbelievable, it’s unacceptable. I work in the hospitality and F&B industry myself, and it’s clear that the staff here either aren’t trained properly or just don’t care.
What stood out most wasn’t the lack of items, it was the complete lack of initiative. No alternatives offered, no effort made. Just an automatic “no” to everything, without even trying. As first-time customers, we left completely unimpressed. We won’t be returning, and it’s solely because of the negligence and indifference of the service staff. When you dine out, especially at a place with this kind of visual appeal, the least you expect is to be treated with basic hospitality. Unfortunately, this place missed the...
Read moreComing from a Californian, a state where you can find some of the most authentic Mexican food outside of Mexico, I highly recommend The Mexican In Town. Admittedly, it isn’t the most authentic Mexican food I’ve had but it does rival some of my favorite spots in California for quality of ingredients and flavor.
The Mexican was one of our regular restaurants for dining in Kuta during our 3+ month stay here. On Mondays they offer a promotion of any main dish for 60k rupiah (usually around 100k). I recommend making a reservation for promotion days especially during busy seasons; there can be a wait otherwise.
The tacos and tostadas were our go-to—the tuna tataki, baja fish, jackfruit and mushrooms are all excellent. My girlfriend and I would split 2 sets of 4 tacos and it would be enough. The nachos (shredded beef) and large wet burrito (chicken) were also great and was a nice combo for the two of us to share. The horchata and tamarindo are both tasty and the three different types of salsa are spicy and a must with each meal.
I suggest dining in as opposed to take out. Atmosphere in the restaurant is lively and the food is much better fresh and with...
Read moreI used to love this place pre covid on the many time i was in Kuta on trips. So back in town i took a friend and were a little bit let down. The Michelada is still very tasty but the food was now quite bland and not as good as i had in my memory. The nachos were very average tasting, with quite bland cheese, and hardly any sauce to make them tasty. The burrito bowl was quite dull - I had crispy fish - which if you compare to the battered mahi mahi on a similar dish at Lolas in Bali, does not even come close. The fish was very soft and slimy and taste was not great. Add to that mayo... i mean come on guys, where are the sauces? We need some salsa, salsa verde, spice it up a lil :) I did manage to get some tabasco which helped things - but i recommend, check out Lolas next time you are in Bali - they show how you can make Mexican without breaking the budget taste amazing!
Place is still nice, looks cute and great location but food has slipped off a bit. hope you can improve as i intend...
