Do not eat here – absolutely awful!

I used to come here for lunch with work years ago and always enjoyed it, so I decided to pop in today for a bit of nostalgia. Big mistake.

The moment we walked in, we regretted it. The carvery setup is gone – now it’s just menus, and even getting one was a hassle. When we asked if they served food, the woman behind the bar told us to go get the menus ourselves. No customer service whatsoever.

We ordered, and things only got worse. The same woman behind the bar went into the kitchen and started preparing our food. I could hear the microwave beeping and saw her take out frozen chips, a giant tub of McDonald’s-style curry sauce, and proceed to microwave everything. She poured the curry over the chicken and reheated it with some rice. The result? Lukewarm, rubbery chicken that tasted terrible. My girlfriend’s chicken sandwich was no better – same cold/warm combo and equally off-putting.

What made it even worse was the complete lack of hygiene. The woman was working behind the bar in a fleece, then straight into the kitchen with no change of clothes or visible handwashing. It was genuinely off-putting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if health and safety shut the place down.

Great Pub in locality of Castletymon Giid honest to God food served from around 12 for Lunches / Lunches. Excellent for watching Sports and Racing Bar runs in house bet offers on a fun basis. Last year during Cheltenham Races Penny Black gave out Free Baskets of chips and Chicken Nuggets .Price for food and drink good. In entering premises pub looks big and ordinary but it makes up straight away with friendly Athmosphere of staff and Local Customers Ave the Rave Google Guide Reviewer says pub is worth every penny ( but couldnt afford the price...

Went here for soup and sandwiches after a funeral had notified them in advance 70 people where catered for no problem. I dealt with Joe who was a great help he was able to work out how many people would realistically turn up and he was correct you can't beat experience. Even though it was a very sad occasion it was a lovely place to bring family and friends staff where very professional and we were well looked after no complaints thanks to everyone at the penny Black...
