BREAKFAST REVIEW
29th August The Caf Douglas, The Isle of Mann.
So, The Caf, Lord Street, Douglas. It was my second visit to the Isle of Mann and my second visit to The Caf. The place seems to be a Mecca to the throngs of bikers that flock to the IoM to watch the races and hurtle round the roads with out speed restrictions.
Luckily we managed to get a table and I ordered the Mixed Grill Breakfast (without the egg and chips), to rounds of toast and a mug of tea.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the toast which must have been nearly two inches thick (the photo doesn't do it justice).
As for the rest? Well I specified beans and tomato and just got beans. I was also served an egg which I had said I didn't want. Luckily though I was able to swap my egg for a plum tomato with my host and tour guide for the weekend Bev.
The sausages were your average cafe fayre as was the bacon and as thrilled as I was to get a slice of Black Pudding and White Pudding both were over cooked and dry. There were enough beans on my plate to float the catamaran I sailed across on.
All in all it was a filling breakfast and quite good value considering the price of most things in the Iom
Will I go back - yeah probably it's just a thing I think you have to do over there, like going to see Great...
Read moreWent early morning during the TT, very busy and queueing out the door but this was expected as a ferry had just come in, waited a few minutes to get served and did find a seat but you can have the option to take your breakfast and cuppa away and there is plenty of places to sit over the road near the bus stop, food was very good and the toast is mega thick and a pretty good coffee, I had the standard breakfast which was very reasonably priced for how much you got, food was very nice and fresh and cooked to a good standard, I will definitely go again when I return next year for the TT, my 3 adult sons were with me and they all loved the food and the amount you get for your money, very filling and filled us up for the morning, would highly recommend The Caff and does what it...
Read moreThe Caff is an excellent traditional café with a variety of typical breakfast menus plus a large selection of mid-day meals. The availability of Filter Coffee (not just Nescafé) is a plus. If offers free wi-fi for those of us who aren't endowed with unlimited 4G data (mainly visitors to the Island these days, I suspect.) Be prepared for bewilderment on account of the endless menu combinations on offer. This sophisticated marketing ploy is usually found in much larger businesses. The rather large fly in the ointment is the price tag which is more restaurant than café so to speak. But if you can stomach that - one breakfast for the price of two - then you won't be disappointed by either the quality or the...
