We came on a Sunday and I had the most delicious carvery, absolutely beautiful flavours and the meat was cooked to perfection. My family who I was with did not have such a good experience. I was able to go up and get my carvery within about 15 mins of sitting down, but the rest of my family had wanted to order different things off the menu we were provided with. It took 1hr15mins to be served from being seated. I had finished my food about 30 minutes before they had anything delivered to the table. We were offered no compensation for this ridiculously long wait, but the staff seemed apologetic. I feel bad for the only two waitresses on the shift as you can tell they were stressed and overworked, why the manager didn't think to rota on more staff for a busy Sunday is beyond me as an ex-food service employee. We wasted all our time between trains waiting for food so we had no chance to have a quick mooch around Douglas, which was a shame seeing as there was a 3 hour gap between said trains and there would have been plenty of time to do so. Overall very disappointed. The food was wonderful when it arrived, but nothing is worth that wait especially when no compensation was offered. They seem newly taken over so I hope they can iron out these kinks before we visit again (if...
Read moreWe went in person to the train station to book the dining cart experience for the curry night. It was amazing to be on a steam train, we loved the atmosphere. However, the full description was not given to us before we payed for our tickets. Drinks are not included in the price, there was an hour break (off the train) which we were not aware of. The service on the train was absolutely fabulous. The curry on the other hand was very bland, we only ate the meat from it to get our monies worth, dessert was quite nice. If you do want to do a dining cart experience, I would recommend a tea and cake one or a during the day, wouldn't do it...
Read moreAlong with the memorable and unique breakfast on a shovel, the service is impeccable. I'd go back for the service alone, the gentleman who seated us allowed us to have the iconic shovel breakfast when breakfast service was meant to be over in 5 minutes. He checked on us and didn't rush us at all. The food itself was also really good quality and the railway theme is not overdone but rather softly accentuating an already pleasant venue. Situated within the old railway tickethall in Douglas, about a 5-10 minute walk from Douglas's ferry terminal. They also have a train dining service that operates, and ties in with the...
