My Sister (who lives on the Isle of Man) and I went here with my labrador on the early evening of 25th of August. Parking was plentiful, under trees for shade a few feet away from the Cafe/Bistro. The setting of this charming building in the wooded Laxey Glen is beautiful. Very peaceful and serene, so much so we sat at our table watching a wild rabbit eating the grass not 10 feet away. With a glass of wine we really enjoyed our meal; a delicious homemade burger in a seeded brioche bun with bacon and cheese. It was accompanied with great music from an excellent sound system, lovely crispy red cabbage, two different types of sauce and the best skin on chips I have ever eaten, so light, crispy and fluffy. Seriously I never knew that type of chip could be so good. Everyone we met here was so friendly and welcoming, both to us and our dog Amber. We had a really warm and interesting conversation with a young man who was sweeping up. He turned out to be the owner Edward. I think you can feel good vibes at a place don't you? And I think those good vibes start at the top. Anyway, we were all made to feel like honoured guests which was great. We both said we'd love to come back again. Edward has done a lot of tasteful renovation work to the building as well as installing a quality play area for children. There is a large yurt type space available for events. The beautiful glen provides interesting walks in the natural environment including a special garden further up the glen. Well worth spending a...
Read moreWe arrived hungry, impressed by the grounds and ready to eat! The female staff were short and aloof, we were seated immediately at a large table but warned the heating didn't work and there were workmen on site(not a problem!) We were told to wait for table service. The place seemed to have good turnover but wasn't busy, and we weren't told of short staff or a long wait. After half an hour the server took our drinks order but refused to take our food order. After 30 mins our drinks arrived (all cold drinks) 2 of which were wrong. After another 30mins our food order was taken. After waiting AN HOUR our food arrived. The 2 vegetarian meals had meat in (and after the server suggested it was just a preference & we keep them) they had to be sent back (another wait) the other 2 meals were well below average. Our rejected food was then served to the table beside us (who had ordered similar but not the same) to our & their horror. Some of our food never even arrived. The red haired gentleman front of house was lovely and doing his best to fight the fires being caused by the staff & kitchen but overall the whole experience was over 4.5 + hours of annoyance , wasted time and leaving hungry. Sad and...

A beautiful building in a lovely setting, unfortunately there was a function being held there and the service suffered, I specified a GF roast dinner, but when it arrived, i questioned which of the 2 plates was GF, the waiter returned them to the kitchen, then came back stating "they both are". The food was lovely, especially the roast beef, although shouldn't a roast dinner have roast potatoes? The waiter was sure is we allowed dessert as the chef was busy?? But eventually it was provided!
90 minutes later i was rushing to the toilet and spent a very uncomfortable 24 hours. It would appear neither of the dinners were actually GLUTEN FREE!!
I was sent a feedback request bia email and replied immediately, but never got a reply, explanation or apology!
Also dogs are no longer allowed inside the restaurant but we witnessed one being allowed to walk/lay on the top of picnic bench outside, a waiter attended to provide the dog a bowl to drink from on the table, we also saw the next customer arrive to eat their food off of the table where the dog was allowed...
