Mondo Pizza — Restaurant in Aci Castello

We had a wonderful evening here that all of us will remember (the kids / teens still talk about it), and we are really grateful to the staff. After a long drive on that day, we wanted to dine somewhere near our hotel, and I found this pizzeria that was in walking distance. The only negative point would be the location on a busy road (especially for us who came by foot), but we could see that they had a terrace in the back (we dined inside because it was too late). We were the only customers to eat there that evening as most clients have take-away, but we were so warmly welcomed! Pizzas were delicious + a great variety of choice. The waiter used Google translate when he could not explain in English, and was very friendly and funny, we loved him. They brought 2 whole plates filled with dessert for free at the end (some kind of sweet fried dough with nutella) because he thought we had to taste it... After the meal, they refused to let us walk to our hotel at night (a 15 min walk) and insisted on driving us home... As there were 7 of us, they had to drive twice, which is simply incredible. Such warm, friendly and authentic people in a nice pizzeria with delicious food. A true Sicilian...

We were visiting Catania for an off season weekend. This was my first visit with my family though I had visited Pizzeria Mondo during my peak season visit. So I was comfortable recommending my family. They have indoor & outdoor (garden) sitting areas but outdoor dining area is closed during winter months due to cold. They have an impressive options of pizzas. Even though the menu’s in Italian, the staff is happy to help you with recommendations and translations. Being vegetarian, sometimes you get very limited options but we were very happy with several options- they have one of the best pizzas at an amazing price! We loved all that we ordered - twister (curly potatoes), margarita pizza, caponata pizza, caprese pizza, vegetarian pizza and calzone. We were surprised and humbled to receive free dessert and free ride back to our hotel! Season or off season, this place is amazing, excellent food, service and hospitality!! Arrived at Catania and stayed at Four Points by Sheraton. Walked to Mondo based on Google map’s high rating. The experience certainly matched and exceeded the rating; tons of choices of pizzas and we could not even make choices due to the languages barrier. The owner used his phone translator and did his best to help. We still could not fully follow. By the end of the day, we asked him to recommend the best pizzas he can offer. The result was great: we had the best pizza ever had at a very reasonable price! Even more surprising, the owner invited us to taste the tiramisu cake he made and offered to ride us back to hotel!
