Absolutely dreadful experience! It looks beautiful as you walk in but that is where the pleasant experience ends sadly. Having eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world but also enjoying many, many local and traditional eateries all over Europe, we couldn’t have been more disappointed with our meal. The clientele is extremely pretentious and all there to be seen.
The tables are so high you instantly feel uncomfortable and as though you can’t complain or ask for a cushion. They come up to my chest and I’m average height for a woman, my 12 year old daughter could just about eat at shoulder height! Even 6ft 2” husband struggled!
The waiting staff weren’t friendly and were obviously very pre-occupied with two large tables of very wealthy Botox-fulled Italian families. They couldn’t do enough for them- 4 waiters per table while we waited for menus, service, we were about to be served but then the manageress saw that the favoured guests should be cleared before we were served so everyone rallied around them again until they were happy.
There were so many wasps all evening all the waiters and guests have to carry electric big rackets! Very little on the menu for children. We thought this wld be the best place for fish which we can cook Greek-style anyway, but always wish to be pleasantly surprised whilst eating out. It was not to be. We were pressured to say yes to a ridiculously large sea bass by the head waiter. The inexperienced junior waiter couldn’t fillet it properly so we had bones in every mouthful and took off all the skin, which if grilled well would be the best bit! Nothing was impressive about the food.
The grilled octopus was very poor standard, small portion and frozen and why they put it on mash potato (which tastes as bad as smash) I will never understand. Exorbitant bill followed at €180 and we didn’t even have desert and shared the least expensive bottle of wine! We...
Read moreFirst of all, the atmosphere of the restaurant is magical. We had a reunion with childhood friends and we are really happy we chose this place for our dinner. The service is exceptional and the location is breathtaking. I’d like to add that me as a vegan arriving to a fish-themed restaurant (the others love fish) I didn’t have high expectations. I know it’s generally difficult on the island to dine out as a vegan and I understand that. This restaurant and the chef have completely went beyond all imagination. I received a plate of antipasti with four different carefully selected dishes, including a delicious pea puree and vegetable soup. Huge compliments to the chef, who is visibly outstandingly inspired and creative, for providing me a selection of 4 different creations. As the main dish, the raddish gnocchi made with zucchini cream was delicious. The chef’s creativity alongside with the kindness, professionalism and attentiveness of the entire service staff (who were each fluent in 3-4 languages!) has made sure that we had an unforgettable night. Lastly, we would like to thank personally Chiara, who as the owner came to our table to check on us and explained every dish, made sure we are fine and well. She is truly attentive to each guest and to her amazing team alike. I cannot wait to return next summer. I wholeheartedly recommend the Ristorante La Rocca by Chiara to anyone who is looking for a special dining experience in Sardinia, as well as for my fellow vegans - you’ll not be...
