Osteria di Potame is a beautiful, magical restaurant. Five stars is not enough to describe the magnificent food and service Simona and Francesco provide. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like family. My partner and I stayed in Amantea for one month, and after eating our way through much of the town, we are certain this restaurant is superior in the city. The menu is thoughtful and deeply reflective of the region. It reminds me of the food my Zia cooks, which she learned from her mother, my Nonna, and so on. Their food is fresh, wholesome, healthy, country-style cooking. We returned again and again throughout our stay for dinner and lunch on Sundays. I will be dreaming of the food until I am blessed enough to return.
Pay no regard to the previous review who spoke ill of their inconsistent hours.
We dined at the restaurant multiple times during our stay—as a walk in or with a reservation—without a problem. Simona and Francesco are running a family business and life happens. If they are closed, do yourself the favour of returning another day. You will not regret it.
I recommend the antipasto di Potame to have a full experience of the aperitivo. The fagiolata dell’Osteria was also delicious and very traditional.
We ate our way through the entire primi menu multiple times, which are all fantastic. The chitarrini dell’Osteria is to die for. I also recommend ordering any special of the day they have on the menu. The paste e fagioli is very authentic, just like my Zia makes it. All of the pasta have such a gorgeous chew to them. They are definitely made in house, just like everything else.
The Bistecca Nonna Ida is a spectacular secondi with patate 'di Linuzza'. The Scaloppina and Vitello are also excellent. The rabbit we had for lunch was divine, of the Calabrian Gods. This Osteria is also the only place in Amantea I have been able to find a handsome dish of rapini—the vedura stagione. So healthy, so fresh, so simple, and yet so wonderful.
The vino rosso and frizzante bianco is incredible, and at the price, it feels like theft. Franceso’s homemade amaro is truly something special and not to be missed. A gorgeous encapsulation of the entire experience to end the night.
I cannot express greater appreciation and gratitude for what Simona, Francesco, and Osteria di Potame are doing for Amantea. It has been a privilege to dine in their kitchen and I cannot stress how wonderful this restaurant really is. If you are familiar with Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations or Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy, this is what you would expect to see. Authentic, unpretentious, and delicious food - at more than a fair price - with perfect service.
This Osteria is truly a hidden gem that deserves all the praise and recognition in the world. But until that day, do yourself a favour and visit Osteria di Potame if life blesses you with the opportunity to visit Amantea and Cosenza.
Grazie mille di cuore, Simona e Francesco,...
Read moreOur group of 8 Canadians had an extraordinary dining experience at Osteria di Potame in Amantea, Calabria. For just 25€/person 🤯, we ordered the entire menu, and it was worth every cent. WARNING it is a LOT of food!!
The antipasto was phenomenal, with 8 different hot and cold dishes, each one more amazing than the last. The pasta dishes were probably the best I’ve ever had—absolutely delicious. When it comes to the secondi piatti, you can’t go wrong with any choice, but Nonna’s bisstecchina is to die for.
Our meal concluded with the tastiest watermelon, and we enjoyed homemade beer, wine, and Amaro throughout. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you're in the area. Be patient, as it’s run by two of the hardest-working people who are having a hard time finding staff. Their dedication truly shows in every dish they serve. Don’t miss out...
Read moreIn 1926 Michelin brought out a guide for visiting restaurants. 1 star meant it’s worth a visit, 2 is worth a detour and 3 is worth planning a trip to see - this is easily a 3 Michelin star in the truest sense of the rating. A rustic, non pretentious meal which is made up of local delicacies, each being truly delicious.
The food is incredible, we ate an absolute feast of delicious food after delicious food. The fizzy white wine and the red wine were lovely and made for easy drinking. The atmosphere was great and the owners work like absolute trojans.
Can’t recommend this restaurant enough… we can’t...
