Cantina Amarcord 1985 — Restaurant in Amantea

Well, what can I say. We went there to have dinner on Wednesday night. We were seated at a nice table, with pretty plates on it. We made our picks from the menu. And then it began.

We got some bread and water, which wasn't that bad. We had bean soup, which tasted exactly like canned beans with some tomatoes warmed up in a microwave. I even saw them carry the beans in a box that is used to store and freeze food. We had some meatballs that had literally no taste. They were just plain matter lacking everything. We had potatoes with cheese. Ordinary. We had some sort of meat roll - again no taste whatsoever, just plain matter. The meat wasn't even minced, it was mashed, or smashed or whatever.

And as a bonus we were being harassed by stray cats during our stay.

This was our first and only time in Amantea when we actually didn't finish our food and left the table.

Se hai voglia di un’avventura culinaria che ti faccia girare la testa e stai vagando per la Calabria, fermati subito ad Amarcord Cantine 1985 ad Amantea. Te lo dico con il cuore: è il posto dove anche il più stressato dei cittadini metropolitani può trovare pace, gioia e magari un paio di chili in più.

Il ristorante è gestito da un gruppo di giovani che, oltre a essere simpatici, sono decisamente più preparati di quanto ti aspetteresti. Ti accolgono con un sorriso e in men che non si dica ti trovi a chiacchierare come se fossi a casa di un vecchio amico.

L’atmosfera è così rilassata che potresti anche scordarti di essere lì per mangiare. Però, quando finalmente ti ricordi che sei in un ristorante, il menù ti ricorda che hai fatto bene a fermati qui. La cucina è un mix tra tradizione calabrese e creatività moderna, con piatti che sembrano dire: "Ciao, sono un classico, ma guarda cosa posso fare!". Se non prendi almeno un assaggio delle specialità di pesce o dei taglieri di salumi e formaggi locali, ti stai perdendo la vita.

E poi c’è il vino. Ah, il vino! Un'ottima e accurata selezione di bottiglie locali e non che non solo sembrano importanti, ma lo sono davvero (consigliato il Pecorello calabrese! ). I giovani gestori te ne parlano con la passione di un enologo e la pazienza di un sommelier, aiutandoti a scegliere la bottiglia perfetta per far brillare i tuoi occhi (e non solo quelli).

Insomma, Amarcord Cantine 1985 non è solo un ristorante, ma una specie di macchina del tempo che ti porta in un posto dove il cibo è buono, il vino è meglio, e i ricordi sono garantiti. Se non ci vai, preparati a pentirtene. Ah i prezzi dei piatti e del vino sono altamente...

We were there on a Sunday night, and it was crowded. It took us one hour to get a table. We asked three people to give us the menu, but they forgot. I had to get up and get the menu myself after half an hour. It took us another half an hour to order. They didn't have the wine we wanted, and they brought us a random wine.
