I recently spent an evening at this restaurant and, while there were some highlights, the experience was ultimately disappointing.
To start with the positives, the setting and views are absolutely stunning, and I would highly recommend trying the Green Gnocchi and the Hunter-Style Rabbit Pasta—both dishes were delicious and well-prepared. The service was quick, which can be a plus, but it did make the evening feel a bit rushed, detracting from what should have been a more leisurely dining experience.
Unfortunately, our experience was marred by a few significant issues. When we ordered the Caprese salad starters, the patron suggested we choose between buffalo mozzarella or burrata, neither of which was mentioned in the menu description. It was presented as if there was no difference between the two options. However, when the bill arrived, we were shocked to see that instead of the Caprese salads, we were charged for two burrata cheeses at an inflated price of 50 euros. This left us feeling deceived and significantly soured our experience.
Moreover, the Lemon Risotto was undercooked and overly lemony, making it a dish I would not recommend.
It's important to note that this isn't about the cost, but rather the principle. Transparency in pricing and menu descriptions is crucial in maintaining trust with customers.
The restaurant does offer a convenient shuttle service, but even this was problematic. The drivers seemed hurried, and I was bumped into a bush by one of the cars as it reversed into a parking spot. The drivers were not as vigilant as they should be, particularly with guests waiting nearby.
The evening ended on an unpleasant note when we confronted the patron about the unexpected charges on the bill. Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to the high standards we expected, especially given its historic Michelin...
Read moreA beautifully mountain situated hotel in Ana Capri. A family hotel passed down in generations. That is one reason why this hotel warrants our continued custom. The hotel rooms are clean and functional with tea making facilities. The sea view chequered by growing vineyards is absolutely incredible . The staff are more than friendly and since it is small, you get to know them pretty quickly.||There is a lovely pool , again overlooking the vineyards and sea.||There is a pool cafe with a great buffet and you can also order food from the restaurant. Pasta puttanesca was certainly our favourite .||They allow locals to use the pool at 18 euros per person which is perfectly understandable to keep cash flow flowing but they need to ensure they respect the privacy of guests and allow them to use the pool without hindrance. ( You need to reserve your sunbeds).||The shower rooms could do with an upgrade and a power shower would be wonderful but they are maybe hindered by their position.||Equally, and if anything could be done, the WIFI could benefit from some investment. It isn’t consistent.||The food in the restaurant is fantastic, if a little pricey ( but so is Italy). It is well known in the area.||The breakfast is simple with toast, pastries , ham , cheese and warm croissants. We enjoyed fresh omelettes every day to order.||They provide a free shuttle service to and from Ana Capri which is lovely, with charming cobbler streets and plenty of restaurants . There is a fridge in the room so you can fill it to your hearts content with produce from the many local supermarkets nearby.||All in all this hotel is more than recommended if you want to escape the crowds of Capri and it would be great for a group of friends or large family...
Read moreGiven the many options here on Capri, Gelsomina was subpar. I made it clear it was my significant others birthday and to please acknowledge us that evening. The restaurant taxi arrived 35 minutes late. We were promptly seated at a table and then waited another 35 minutes before a waiter even greeted us. We ordered two glasses of wine and two appetizers and two entrées. We really liked the Barolo so we had a lengthy discussion around Wine and ordered the bottle of Barolo that we had been drinking by the glass. That wine would have been around €60 per bottle. She ordered “the best raviolis on the island”. She and I have eaten at some really nice Italian restaurants over the years at these were not even close to being average. My entrée was excellent. I ordered the Tegel towel with a rabbit Ragu. Prior to ordering my significant other, made it very clear that she would like to have tiramisu maybe even prior to eating dinner. That was a joke, of course, but when we went to order dessert, our waiter walked away and sent one of his minions. The young kid came by and told us that they were out of tiramisu. They certainly did not run out of tiramisu because we watched them deliver it to many other tables throughout the evening. The bread service was subpar. The best part of the evening was when we got our check and found that he had charged us €150 for the wine that we were paying €13 per glass. This is unacceptable to take advantage of tourists. I would highly recommend selecting another restaurant when...
