La P'Osteria — Restaurant in Argegno

We were extremely disappointed by the service and quality of food upon our visit to this restaurant. We travelled very far to visit this restaurant for dinner, as my Italian friend recommended it and I was excited to try a new place with my friends who were visiting a como for the first time. I am American, but my husband is Italian and we have dined many times in Italian restaurants, so I understand what to expect in terms of services and protocol.

On this occasion my husband was not dining with us, and my Italian is limited , so I’m sure it appeared we were just foreigners, and we were treated accordingly. We were left to sit for long periods of time , our order was wrong and multiple items forgotten , there were bugs in the food. The food arrived burnt, and appeared to have been old or leftover scraps from a larger plate of food. It very much felt as if we were not given the same treatment or quality of food as the Italians dining close by.

There was no language confusion as the waiter was also the concierge and spoke fluent English. They just didn’t seem to care about giving us the same care and attention as we were “ just foreigners “. I have never been treated this way in a restaurant when I am accompanied by my Italian husband.

I was incredibly disappointed and will never go back to the restaurant again. I felt that my money was wasted as the food and service was terrible.

We arrived at 7.30pm and asked for a table for 4 people. The owner appeared irritated that we had not booked and begrudgingly found us a table even though only one table was in use outside and the restaurant was empty inside. We then waited for 15 minutes for anyone to come near us. We were told to scan a bar code for the wine list and menu. There was no Wi-Fi and our phone had no signal. We asked for a paper menu and this was declined. Instead we were given an iPad to share between four. We ordered a bottle of wine at 24 Euros and we’re given water. The menu was uninspiring and no help was given with choosing our food, so we decided not to eat there. This made the owner angry and we were then given a bill for 39 Euros stating that we had used his fine-dining restaurant facilities so we must pay the extra 12 Euros for the privilege. A true gem!!! Very delicious high quality restaurant, convenient and spacious bed & breakfast, cozy bistro & high quality wine shop located in and around the beautiful historic post office of Argegno right at the lake. It’s off the beaten track, hidden from the tourist crowds, which we really liked!

It’s the perfect place to visit if you want to experience the true lake Como. It’s family run and highly professional. The owner Niccolò greets you every day at the restaurant and together with his team he makes sure you get everything you need.
