Since we arrived in Italy we were fortunate enough to find Giulio at Café Bijou. In our two week stay in the area we went back at least four times. Once for lunch, once for takeout, and twice dine in for dinner service once without and once with a reservation. Each time was exceptional and the food never disappointed and full of flavor. The fresh seasonal vegetables and hand made dough for the pizza is phenomenal along with the sauce that you can tell is also made by hand. Fair warning here, sometimes they do run out if your not early for lunch but usually will make more for dinner service later on. Pasta is excellent, and the different sauces pair nicely with each dish. All of the deserts are fantastic if you have room for them at the end. If you have any allergies be sure to let them know as they will try to accommodate as best they can with what they have available. Giulio provided us with a personal experience and hospitality that I myself nor my wife have had anywhere across Europe or even in the States. If you get the chance make a reservation for about a half hour before sunset and ask for a table on the back terrace for one hell of a evening view weather permitting. Also, Giulio if/when you read this Katie says the chocolate cake with strawberries was amazing and it was really really good, and thank you for giving her a desert that she could actually enjoy. It should be a special item on the menu it...
Read moreWarning, if you hate being treated like a tourist, this is not where you want to eat. They charge based on where you are from. A complete insult and a ripoff. You hear about places like this, but experiencing it is far worse. I hear him call out the total to the waitress, she responds in shock. After I talk to the waitress and say this is expensive, I'm not a tourist, she said you should have ordered from me. As I leave, he shouts out "hasta la huego". I've lived in Italy for over 5 years and I'm fluent in Italian. Insulting!
For an authentic experience with honest prices and delicious food, go to Osteria il Campanellino restaurant, located next to the church on the next street. Great views. More importantly, not a tourist trap!! Ugh.
I felt a deep desire to warn all my fellow travelers who say I...
Read moreA fantastic experience. Ordered pizza to take away, the pizza was one of the best we had in Italy, the prices were very reasonable and the staff were very friendly. In particular, we asked for tiramisu on the order, but when we realised it wasn’t easy to take away (prepared in a glass container), we said not to worry. The staff were incredibly friendly, and insisted that we should try the tiramisu, and so gave us the glass to take it away in and said not to worry about bringing it back (as we were leaving the next morning).
It was a small gesture, but showed both the generosity and care Cafe Bijou has for its customers. The tiramisu was amazing as well, so...
