Sometimes, brilliance can be found in the most surprising places.
Barbarino Val D’Elsa is a quaint little Tuscan village about 45 minutes south of Florence, situated with its twin village of Tavernelle Val di Pesa. They are the homes of lovely olive groves and vineyards with oils and wines that are not (yet) well-known.
A hidden gem is Triocco. With a typically Tuscan friendly and welcoming staff, the atmosphere hits you at the door along with the wonderful aromas emerging from the kitchen.
The menu is appropriately short, but with something that everyone can love. New interpretations of classic dishes, perfectly sourced salamis and cheeses and flavors that make you want to close yours eyes, but presentations so beautiful that you cannot.
A better meal at twice the price cannot be found in Florence.
A better experience anywhere would be difficult to find.
Next time we return to Tuscany, we will find a way to...
Read moreWe had dinner here last night. We were with a party of 8 and areived at 7:30PM. It was a lovely place, great view over the Tuscan hills so everything started out great. Around 9PM the place was PACKED! People were lined up in front of the restaurant. Sadly, this didn’t help the service; our waiters (several, like 4 or so) were clearly overwhelmed because it was simply too busy. I asked for mayonnaise to go with my fries but they never arrived. A new round of drinks took about 20-25 minutes, and I personally feel that’s too long so it took away from out overall experience. That said, the pizza chef personally came out of his kitchen to cut my kids pizza, and that was just such a nice gesture because he saw them struggling with their uncut pizza.
The food is amazing, but the need more staff to deliver a really putstanding experience. Would cone back again, thank...
Read moreMake sure you try this gem of a restaurant. We had dinner for 3 families on two occasions. Excellent atmosphere/location, tables along the wall with a perfect view above the countryside. Attentive and very friendly service from all of the staff (speaks mostly fluent English). Flexible, knowledgeable about food and wine pairing, makes you feel welcome. Varied menu, with some classics and some in-house specialities. Staff members have families that run wineyards, ask for their special wines. Highest scoring dishes in our group was the steak and the mille-feule desert, but some of the pizzas was great as well. Have a chat about the beers and pairing with food as well, they have som local specials.
Parking at the few places just below along the main road, or probably easier and less stressful by the public bibliotheca nearby. Try to...
