Antica Santa Lucia — Restaurant in Bari

Pretty awful lunch in this place. We had a late lunch ordered oysters then two pastas and tuna steak. In no time we were served those pastas and oysters all together. Pastas were tasteless and I have never been served still half closed oysters that I had to fight off myself to get the meat off the top shell and enjoy them. That was rather crazy. We were told that kitchen closes at 15.30 and at the exact time waiter arrived clearing everything even wanted to take not yet fished bottle of wine in the ice bucket. One of the young waiters looks so bored and uninterested, he just hangs and slouches at the fish tanks with crossed arms. Nobody seams to care much here. Additionally restaurant is located on the edge of the sea with lots of floor to ceiling large windows. I must say that those windows haven’t been cleaned for months!! It’s absolutely disgraceful to keep the place this filthy. Outside terrace was even worse. Poorly prepared food but popular with local crowds due to prices. I’d definitely wouldn’t go...

Probably the worst and totally unexpected experience in Italy. We were at the end of a 7 days trip on the beautiful southern coast of Italy and the plan for our the last night was to enjoy a dinner at a fish restaurant. Everybody recommended Bari for its sea-foods restaurants, so we picked this location, Antica Santa Lucia, because it was close to our accommodation. Big mistake, we should have known better after they told us that nobody knew what the catch of the day was or how much it would cost. In the end I decided for the fresh(!!) fish fillet and my friend ordered fresh sardines. My fillet tasted like wet paper and most probably was cooked from expired frozen fillets. However, I was the fortunate one as the fried sardines smelled and tasted like a combination of frogs and sulphur. Don't get me wrong, I like sea foods and I enjoyed exotic tastes like frog legs or snails in the past, but this was a new challenge to my tastes and it was not a pleasant one....

Antica Santa Lucia come Antica e la sua storia,lo sempre frequentato negli anni e sempre rimane uno splendido scenario sulla costa barese! Gestito da sempre dalla famiglia Caldarulo che mi ha confermato la presenza del figlio del Antico chef,che diverse volte si prendeva cura della cucina che appariva portando pietanze....

Per una ricorrenza in famiglia, abbiamo consumato una frittura di calamari e gamberi e un ciccio al centro,2 cavatelli allo scoglio e il piccolo sceglieva una pizza(ottima alternativa dove in un gruppo,ad esempio che descrivo,con la presenza di un bambino,salva la cena del gruppo come alternativa che viene proposta a chi non è pronto alle deliziose ricette del mare).

Non c'era molta gente quindi tutto gestito senza ingappi e perfetti i tempi del servizio che si apre con una meritevole frittura di prodotto buono e presentato in una doratura croccante e perfetta! Allo stesso tempo viene servita la pizza con il ciccio da non far rimanere nessuno nelle attese delle aspettative... Come sempre la pizza ha il suo perché,malgrado l'antica santa lucia si presenta come ristorante di mare e non come pizzeria,soddisfa chi sceglie questa alternativa.

Dopo l'inizio di questa cena,arriviamo al cavatello desiderato che è il protagonista di questo ahimè 3 stelle sul punteggio. Purtroppo ha deluso profondamente, non avevo grosse pretese, ma almeno mi aspettavo un primo da chiamare allo "scoglio"! Appena presentato lampava agli occhi che avevano fatto uno sproposito di uno di farina come addensante per ingannare la cremosità della cottura che mancava come di gusto e di amore.... Lo scoglio era un pò scarso,perché a parte le cozze fresche e qualche noce,si vedeva a volte l'ombra di qualche tagliatella,per il resto tutta la varietà del mare sembra che fosse andato in sciopero. La cosa grave è che si notava e che era preparato dalla mano da chi un aveva messo passione! Mancanza di un fondo di mare,un salto di vino bianco,ma disgustava il sapore salato e dava l'impressione di mangiare pasta all'olio! Si è conclusa così,molto deludente.

Prezzi abbastanza in linea con le proposte, buono il servizio, però non vorrei che la frequenza di molti turisti possa rilassare la tradizione del gusto e dei sapori Pugliesi!

Spero che questa recensione decisa e a volte un pò ironica,sia vista non come una critica, ma come un richiamo costruttivo che possa far tornare l'attenzione sulla preparazione come ha cominciato la storia della...
