Café Marly — Restaurant in Bergamo

While waiting for my boyfriend’s barber appointment, we took a stroll through the city center and stopped at this café for breakfast. We were looking for a nearby place to try something new. The exterior is very well-kept and minimalist, although it’s not immediately obvious that it’s a coffee shop. As soon as we entered, the waitress showed us to a small indoor room, which wasn’t very crowded. The interior features a classic, baroque style, with antique furniture. The neutral colors of the space, like dark gray and brown, make the environment cozy and relaxing. We ordered a cappuccino, a caffè macchiato, a chocolate braid pastry, and a pain au chocolat. The drinks were well-prepared; the cappuccino foam was creamy, and the pain au chocolat had a perfect, airy and flaky texture. The chocolate braid was soft and generously filled. The waitstaff were professional, punctual, and very kind. Overall, it was a satisfying, relaxing, and distinctive experience — exactly the kind of place we look for on our stops, something different from the usual.

Me and my friend had lunch at Cafe Marly in June. We were not informed that the restaurant didn’t have any of the dishes that were advertised on the menu. Even after ordering we were informed that the restaurant was out of our chosen dishes. I received a makeshift dish made out of leftover ingredients as a compromise, which tasted and was plated badly. At this point we hade waited over an hour, and my friend had already received his food. After complaining to the server, I was able to get my dish replaced, and ordered the same pasta dish as my friend, only to find out that this dish was also out. In the end the received a pasta dish of low quality, at the price of one at a good restaurant. The restaurant seemingly has no communication between kitchen and servers, at the expense of...

The cozy ambiance pairs perfectly with their coffee. They serve a variety of pastries, including fresh croissants. There's no lactose-free milk available, but there are plant based alternatives such as soy and rice - both gluten free. Staff are friendly and the place has a warm, welcoming vibe.
