SMB San Marco Gourmet — Restaurant in Bordighera

I went to this beach this summer with my girlfriend for a few days. Unfortunately, I honestly expected to find something better than what I found during my stay. Starting with the staff at the entrance, the woman who should give the keys to clients looked to be a bit annoyed by our presence. I instead found the owner to be very careful to details but what I didn't find to be fair is that there is a sort of distinction between people who are given a place in the first rows of the beach and instead other people who are treated less carefully and almost with contempt, by being given last rows' spots. Furthermore, the thing that bothered me the most are the lifeguards. I am talking about the ones that worked on the right side of the beach. They are very rude people, and what I noticed is that some people used to even give them tips during the day in order to have the first row's spots guaranteed for the next year (that's what some people told me, correct me if I'm wrong). Finally, I do not find fair that some services are not included in the price (which is pretty high in my opinion). I'm talking about facilities like canoes and pedalo (which I heard they are free at the beach on the left of S. Marco which should be called Maoma. I didn't have the time to go there but for sure I'll try it next year in case I'll come to Bordighera again, being it less expensive and with a nice restaurant too), and what I find extremely hilarious is that if you do not come back exactly within the time you have payed them for (I'm talking about a range of a few minutes) you get a scold by the lifeguards. Last thing, kinda annoying also the stay of old people at the tables...it's almost impossible to find a seat during the afternoon (can we find a solution for next year maybe?). That said, not sure I'll go back but I'll be grateful in case you'll be able to improve these...

San Marco is a fantastic upmarket restaurant right on the beach at Bordighera and you are guaranteed a fantastic view over the sea 😁

The food here is really good, excellent pizzas (the gourmet pizzas are served on slate) and the pasta is also really good 👍

Unfortunately most of the staff don't speak English (one or two can) and the menu also is only in Italian with no online version available which you could use translation on but we managed

Lastly the music playing from the bar next door was very loud and all night long, perhaps this was party night and you may be fine but it was very loud (good party music but we came for food not pizza) so be aware

Overall very good and...

Dopo che ci hanno portato il menu abbiamo aspettato 15 minuti senza che nessuno ci prendesse l’ordine. Alla fine abbiamo chiamato una cameriera sennò chissà quando sarebbero arrivati. Ordiniamo una grigliata mista da 20€, un pesce alla griglia 16€, un risotto ai frutti di mare 18€ e una carbonara 12€. Più un prosecco brut.

Innanzitutto la cameriera che ci ha portato il prosecco non riusciva ad aprirlo. Ha dovuto chiedere al pizzaiolo che stava dietro a lei di farlo al posto suo.

Ma questo è il fatto meno grave, infatti quando ci sono arrivati i piatti siamo rimasti scioccati. Il pesce alla griglia in realtà l’hanno fatto al forno e quello non si può definire pesce. Voi se sul menu leggete “pesce alla griglia” cosa vi aspettate ? Un bel pesce intero. Invece a noi è arrivato un piccolo pezzo grande quanto due dita. Ovviamente abbiamo detto che l’abbiamo chiesto alla griglia invece che al forno allora hanno detto che ce l’avrebbero cambiato, ma è arrivato lo stesso pezzo identico un po’ rosolato sulla griglia.

Altra nota dolente che non ho detto prima è che non ci hanno portato il pane e quando l’abbiamo chiesto ci hanno portato pane del giorno prima e grissini che scadevano dopo 4 giorni.

La pancetta della carbonara era super bruciata e la grigliata mista era un piattino minuscolo che non avrebbe saziato nemmeno un bambino.

L’unico che si salva è il risotto.

Verso la fine quando un cameriere ci ha chiesto come andava, noi abbiamo risposto molto male, ma lui ha fatto finta di niente e se ne è andato ....

Ciliegina sulla torta: quando andiamo a pagare il cassiere ci dice che non è molto bravo con il resto e se possiamo dirgli quanto ci deve. Diamo 100€ per pagare 84€ allora gli diciamo 16€ di resto. Lui ci da 11€ palesemente facendoci apposta.
