We had an outstanding dining experience at Protosteria! The food and the service were superb. Valentina literally took care of the entire dining room single-handedly!
Being that we were in Brontë, the pistachio capital of Italy, we tried to have as many different pistachio dishes as possible!
We started with a delicious caponata, followed by ravioli in a pistachio sauce. For a main courses, we both had beef (the filet and the tagliata) both with a divine pistachio sauce and a side of sautéed ciccoria. Accompanying our meal was their red house wine, also delicious. For dessert, a pistachio semi-freddo, light and refreshing after a big meal.
But what happened next was really the icing on the cake!
We came to Bronte from Randazzo via the Etna train. We had absolutely no idea that the walk to Bronte centro storico would be down very steep hills with slippery cobblestones. Ten years ago, this would not have been a problem, but my arthritic knees were not happy!

The service was good, as was the food, and the cost very reasonable. We were driving home from Nebrodi so didn't have wine, and had a light meal: my partner had an antipasta, and a desert, while I had pasta with a mixed salad, followed by a cappuccino. There was also a complimentary bowl of chickpea soup while waiting for our food which was very good, and made us feel welcome. The total cost was €38. A place to return to...
Read moreJust back from a 10-day trip to Sicily. Our lunch here was the best of the entire trip. We had the pasta with shrimp and pistachio pesto and the tagliata with pistachio sauce and both were outstanding. The service was wonderful. After lunch our server took us to a great store to purchase pistachio products when we asked for advice. Great experience. Just don't listen to Google Maps for directions. The streets they take you on are beyond tight. Look at the map and stay below the ancient area...
