This restaurant has a very cozy romantic ambiance. On a clear night, amazing options for dining al fresco. Unfortunately the night we were there it was raining. The host is very gracious and professional, with a fairly strong command of English.
I started off with a delicious Negroni. Our table also ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and Montepulciano D'Abruzzo.
I had a light dinner, as we ate a heavy lunch earlier. As is the custom in many restaurants in Italy, "chef's gifts" were brought to the table. One resembled a Clementine orange, but was in actuality a small pizza. Another was like a miniature pizza slice, but was made with peanut crust. The third resembled a miniature meatball but was made with olive and breadcrumbs. A fourth item looked like a cherry tomato, but was a miniature round caprese salad. These items were a fun and delicious way to launch into a culinary adventure. I'm not sure the proper term but these items reminded me of the tendency in some Asian cuisine to prepare something that resembles something else
The Bacala e Perperoni was amazing. I also had the shrimp Ravioli, which was even more spectacular. The Dolce course was a kind of vanilla gelato over a piece of sponge cake, with an espresso sauce pour over.
If you are looking for the kind of dinner where food is elevated to the level of art, this is the place where you should go in Cassino. It was also incredibly reasonable considering we had a party of nine and spent less than €300.
They also have two amazing chef's tasting menu choices: meat or fish. I really wanted to order the fish version, but due to the size of our party, it wasn't possible. I wasn't 100% clear as to the reason but I think it was because I would have been the only one out of nine people who wanted...
Read moreAn inviting location, sadly let down by sub standard service and an average food menu, that was pushed too hard from the outset. When we walked in, initially thoughts were promising. However, when the wine list turned up, this showed an extensive menu, albeit missing some pretty heavy hitters in the wine game, and bottle prices one may attribute more to Rome than a quiet provincial time. When wine was selected, immediately the waiter started pushing the food, explaining how my choice of wine would only come to life if I succumbed and ordered his accompaniments of food. These transpired to be spring rolls with mayo on the top. Not sure the height of degustation was really happening here, and certainly didn't life my experience, wine taste or otherwise. Finally, although the outside seating area was virtually vacant of any customers, save 2 tables, after the initial pouring of wine; the table nearest us, occupied by 3 gents, was doted on constantly while we were largely ignored and left to our own devices. Perhaps they were people of influence, or one of them was as the owner, but it left a rather poor taste on our mouths as the service being offered was totally imbalanced. So summarise, it's a lovely little location and has a certain charm. Would I return again?...
Read moreGreat place for dining. The ambiance is charming and stylish. We were lucky to receive precious advise from Alessandro. Accompanied with a spectacular serving, his choice of red vine for Dark breast with truffle and white pairing for Calmar appeared a perfect match. He professionally help us to navigate in wast choice of great wines offered there. We appreciate this gastronomic experience, and will definitely recommend to visit this...
