il Birrificio di Como — Restaurant in Como

We went to eat here on suggestion from our B&B host (B&B Hotel Como Camerlata) as they could give us a 10% discount. At the restaurant we were greeted by several waiters who barely spoke English and didn’t understand much we said. We communicated we had to eat “senza glutine” (gluten-free) as we both have Celiac disease. When we asked for the gluten-free bread the waiter put a bag of bread on our table and said nothing about it. After we took out the bread and put it on our plate, the waiter came back and told us “no gluten-free”, even though we specifically asked for ONLY gluten-free food. Horrible mistake which could’ve cost us our 2 weeks vacation. The caprese afterwards was very bland and not as juicy as you’d expect an Italian mozzarella to be. My angus steak was cooked nicely to my preferred rareness and the greens were fine. My girlfriend’s rösti had a horribly bland taste and the sausages had a bad aftertaste too. As if it was all pre-made. After all these blunders we got out of here as soon as possible. Added to this the atmosphere was really tasteless and there were a lot of loud people who disregarded that they were at a restaurant. Cannot recommend eating here. !!ESPECIALLY NOT IF YOU HAVE...

Honestly, if you're looking for a restaurant similar to one you would find in the United States, this is probably the place to go. There was a lot of meat options regards to steaks and burgers. One thing I did enjoy was their options for beer. They had multiple selections and a few of their specialty beers were excellent.

The biggest concern we had was the lack of acknowledgment from our server in the beginning. We had watched as another table had been seated and received their drinks before us. Aside from this, our server was very friendly and accommodating to the fact that we didn't speak Italian. I did my best to translate and, in the end, it worked out perfectly in regards to ordering food and drinks.

I would go back here for their filet again. They cooked it perfectly in my perspective and the seasonal vegetables were very very good!

SPAGHETTI IMMANGIABILI. Nonostante l'esordio di questa recenzione,premetto che al "Birrificio" vado da anni, porto gente ed è un posto che in generale adoro e trovo uno dei must della zona sempre apprezzatissimo in generale. Aggiungo che nell'insieme l'idea imprenditoriale e l'organizzazione sono lodevoli. Ma qualcosa va storto talvolta e nel mio caso di brutto direi. A menu ci sono la novità di questi ultimi tempi, i famosi spaghetti al granchio blu balzati alle cronache di questi ultimi anni.Prima di prenderli, come spesso faccio quando non sono esattamente in un ristorante ristorante (questa è un locale dalla cucina direi industriale per il numero di coperti) chiedo se A sono espresso (cucinati al momento) e B se posso averli al dente: entrambi SI. Invece NO, non erano espresso ( precottura a gogo) e ovviamente nemmeno al dente. Non ho mangiato spaghetti così scotti nemmeno nelle mense dove scaldano a bagno maria per ore e si ha l'effetto purè anche per la pasta e nemmeno in temerari ristoranti pseudo italiani all'estero (ho tentato la sorte in un ristorante a Praga ed erano cotti meglio). Alla cassa con gentilezza dico " posso fare una critica?".."prego mi risponde", spiego la cosa, mi dice che potevo dirlo li avrebbero rifatti, non avevo fiducia nemmeno li avessero rifatti in realtà il precotto è precotto dubito li avrebbero fatti realmente espresso, per altro spaghettoni genere 12 minuti di cottura, ma avrei anche aspettato a saperlo piuttosto che la pappetta. Pazienza a pranzo in pseudo ristoranti da pranzo di lavoro 10 euro tutto compreso (ma anche lì io non tollero) , ma essendo il piatto principe della cucina italiana la pasta, va RISPETTATA e onorata, almeno da noi italiani. Peccato. E pensare che il condimento non era nemmeno male. Proporrei una legge che punisca severamente la pasta scotta al ristorante in Italia e non scherzo. Ma è così difficile? va bbè ...di contro un consiglio, sempre al birrificio in altra occasione bho preso i paccheri ai frutti di mare, quelli sono di pasta fresca li fanno sul momento ed è tutta un'altra vita e musica, di fatto molto buoni. Altra cosa andata storta nella serata niente pane in tavola, dovuto chiedere.Ah... dimenticavo, alla cassa non ha fatto nemmeno il gesto da dire "visto l'incidente il caffè lo offriamo ", non compensava certo i ben 19 euro di spaghetti scotti, ma sarebbe stato decisamente più onorevole per loro....
