We came here for lunch and enjoyed it so much that we also got an amazing room and spent an entire day in Rifugio Friedrich August. It’s was the best food, location, service and decor we had during our trip. I highly recommend to spend at least a night in one of their rooms.

Food: we had lamb shanks and goulash soup. The portions are very satisfying. Lamb shanks alone are good for 2 people.

We also had three-course dinner and breakfast included with our room rate. The food was very yummy every time.

Rooms: we stayed in a room with private bathroom/shower and the view of the mountains. It was about $15 per person more than the room with shared bathroom. The rooms are all about the same - clean, cozy and have good sound isolation. The shared bathroom was clean and newly renovated. Very comfy bedding.

You can definitely see that the owners care a lot about the property and guests’ satisfaction.

Amazing value for the price overall. Plus amazing views and great...

The interior of the hut is very inviting, and the view as well as the outdoor area make it a great place to relax in good weather. We have visited the hut several times before, but unfortunately, we have noticed that the service has been getting worse.

In addition to the noticeably rising prices, the behavior of the staff inside was particularly disappointing. When we chose not to order dessert, we were mocked, and when asking for the bill, we were abruptly told that only one couple could pay separately, while the rest of the group had to split the total among themselves – an inflexible rule, especially for a larger group of over 12 people.

The inappropriate tone and aggressive behavior of the service staff left a bad aftertaste on the overall atmosphere. It’s a shame because the location itself has the potential for a truly...

The staff here are so rude which unfortunately spoils the experience. This is such a shame as the location, view and food are amazing. We ordered scrambled eggs which were served without bread so as soon as it came we asked for some bread too. We were told bluntly we should have ordered this to start with. We apologised and asked if we could order now to which the waitress just rolled her eyes and walked off. 2 minutes later some bread came. It’s a strange feeling to be so unwelcome when you are paying (a lot) for food and service. As soon as we finished our coffee a waitress came over with a card machine so clearly wanted us gone. Before arriving we’d considered booking to stay here in the future but we will...

We came for the Krapfen and loved them! Yes Instagram helped us and several others by the look of it. We started early in Canazei with a 35 minute walk to get the first gondola up. It's then about a 15 minute walk down to the Refugio. We didn't stay at the hotel or eat in the restaurant. We sat and enjoyed our Krapfen and admired the world class views before heading to walk the Sella Pass. We did all this with a stroller/pram and it was steep but possible with 2 people to swap turns. Highly recommended and as Instagram says, get there early for a little queue and to ensure they aren't sold out! ⛰️

Absolutely amazing experience. We had dinner there in March 2025 and it was simply exquisite. The food, the service, the whole experience was 6 stars!!! We were picked up near the car park by the snow groomer and taken to the top where the rifugio is located as you can’t reach it by car in the evening. We were greeted with a glass of mulled wine (which was delicious and so warming) and then when the whole party was at the top we were taken to our table. Service was simply amazing. The food was delicious. I could not recommend this place enough. It is a must if you are in the area!!!
