At this place, we had no significant experience. The impressions we had, were not of a well-managed restaurant with a passion for their food, but rather a "we must deliver something that somehow justifies the price."
We were seated in a rustical environment next to a table with cleaning materials. The disinfectant alcohol smelled interessesting, but it covered the smell of the wood-fired pizza oven directly behind the table.
While waiting for a seat, we found the "open" red and white wine delivered similar to lemonade and beer from a tab. Fortunately, we avoided it. The faces of some guests drinking this wine told stories.
While waiting for someone to take our orders, a waitress brought us "greetings from the kitchen" (picture). The toasted white baguette bred tried to cover the taste that it was not from the same day (Saturday evening). The bowl of tomato sauce looked and tasted like arrabbiata that you buy in a glass from the supermarket. Looking around, it seems maybe to be the base for the pizza. Sadly we didn't try this dish but chose something vegetarian. Also, here we met this sauce on something like cheese/spinach "gnocchi" (a bit like German Knödel), which lacked salt and was drowned in oil that tasted like nothing.
We helped ourselves with salt and pepper since the stuff was permanently at its max capacity.
I paid at the end around 30 Euro (two simple pasta dishes and a water bottle).
Honestly, we were happy to be out there.
To put it in a nutshell: Crowded, medium service, ingredients: not fresh (mass products), food quality okayish (don't expect to be impressed), price-for-value: low.
Guys, be authentic. Don't try all but focus on the things matter. 4 pages with different pizza isn't needed. A few but balanced dishes with good quality and passion, adopted to seasons that serve vegetarian, vegan, and...
Read moreThe Boccon d’Oro is a must-go restaurant. The place is spotless, the service is impeccable, and food… Food tastes like heaven. At the Boccon d’Oro, you will find local food that you will miss for sure when you will be back from holidays (I do). As for pizzas, let me tell you those pizzas are actually the best I have ever tasted. Very thin, crunchy pizza crust, high quality ingredients. (I suspect the Pizza Maker to be powered by Uranium).
About the « disappointing » experiences at the Boccon d’Oro I could read, I saw a minority of individuals saying waiting time for dishes was « too long ». I can assure you this quite never happens. Obviously - especially during summer - the restaurant is overcrowded (victim of its success). Therefore, the waiters try to deal as best as they can to serve you as quickly as possible. Those haters should remember the Boccon d’Oro is a Restaurant, NOT a Fast-food ;)
It is a...
Read moreThere are millions of pizzerias in Italy over the years I frequented a massive number of them but this one has a particular thing that make me write this review: The paste of the pizza. I choose a particular one “Pra de gum” because I never saw the name anywhere else. and that was a piece of art on a place and it tasted divine… there is a master pizzaiolo at the oven and that explain a lot. I like querky pizzas and I’ve been served. Highly recommended the restaurant is a bit difficult to find because it’s OFF the road. It’s close to an IP gas station at the end of a narrow path that lead to an ample car park The sign is dark blue and you can see it from...
