In the Dolomites, with a good location in San Martino di Castrozza, this BEAUTIFUL small hotel, was lovingly designed by brother and sister team Michael and Elizabeth with too many tasteful, clean, modern design details to name. Our room was well sized, with a high-end design look and many windows, including a sliding window to the balcony overlooking the mountains, and a top-notch, large bathroom with the best shower we had in Europe. The restaurant is at their core - it's VERY, VERY good, with an especially exceptional breakfast. Chef Michael produces scratch pastries, breads, & 6 different delectable homemade jams every morning. We were there on an odd, off-season weekend when we were the only overnight guests, and still, the breakfast included several kinds of croissants, three stuffed pastries (one with nutella, one with homemade apricot jam, the third...I didn't get to, so I don't know), and three kinds of breads....ALL baked fresh that morning. Desserts are one better than the next, also all from scratch. Not to mention, the scrambled eggs we had were the best I've ever tasted - I have never actually inquired how someone made their scrambled eggs so I could copy it, but there, I did. There was more -- yogurt, fresh berries, cheeses, etc. We did not need lunch. This hotel actually started as a restaurant, with mother Anita, Elizabeth and Michael working side by side, and they are slowly growing it into a beautiful boutique hotel with 8 rooms. The locals know about the cooking, because it was a popular 'out to dinner' spot in the evening (with two roaring fires), and had a stream of locals who came for the pastries and cafe in the morning. Downstairs has a lovely 'living room' with fireplace and many places to hang out. Best of all, all three of the family, and waitress Julie, were completely devoted to making sure you were warmly welcomed, and that they took care of every wish. For instance, when I walked into the hotel, taking my very muddy boots off at the door so as not to soil the floor on the way up to my room, Elizabeth insisted on taking them downstairs and delivered them back to my room completely clean outside our door. You may come for the food and room, but you will...

Read moreFrom our email exchanges to a final hug goodbye, this was a truly lovely experience. Elisabeth and her family went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed every part of our stay. The restaurant is first class--dinners were inspired and delicious and breakfasts were completely homemade, including jams and fresh baked bread. Every member of the staff was friendly and welcoming. Elisabeth gave us wonderful advice about beautiful hiking trails. San Martino di Castrozza is a terrific base for summer hiking...a little crowded on the weekend, but much quieter on weekdays. The setting of the town is spectacular. We were traveling as a couple, but the Chalet seemed to be a great place for families, too. Just a wonderful,...
