Trattoria del Vescovo is no mere typical trattoria. It is a hidden gem of lake Iseo. I cannot recommend it enough to both tourists and also locals who haven’t tried it yet, as it is just a year old.
When I first arrived in Pisogne and noticed Vescovo sitting in the main town square, I foolishly overlooked it, telling myself I needed to venture deeper to find some far flung tiny osteria to taste truly authentic local cuisine. But later that evening, I unexpectedly ended up at Vescovo, and I soon discovered that the restaurant is a church to beautifully prepared homemade Brescian style food. The dishes are made with passion, a focus on seasonal freshness, and are prepared with soul and heart. The best Italian cuisine is simple yet gutsy, however that delicate balance can be hard to find, but Vescovo achieves it consistently. I know this because I ended up eating there every single night of my stay in Pisogne.
Order from the specials list, because chef and proprietor, Laura, plans her specials directly according to what she finds at the market and which meet her high standards of excellence. One night, I ate green pappardelle served with ragu. After that, medallions of veal served under a bed of porcini. Another night, boar was on offer, so the restaurant made me a pasta with boar ragu (phenomenal), and, as a main course, boar with polenta covered in an aromatic spice rub. Tripe was also on offer, so I tried a mountain-style stew featuring beans, and the tripe was creamy and tender. I also enjoyed a stuffed ravioli-like regional pasta known as “casoncelli” and it is a must-get: thick and pillowy, they're filled with meat and served in a puddle of butter and sage.
Just trust me that Vescovo is is a gem. I especially recommend the outdoor seating, which overlooks the peaceful piazza, and you’ll also have to trust me on this, but if chef Laura steps out for a smoke and joins you at your table, ask her about her previous life as a nurse in a hospice care ward. She will tell you profound and remarkable tales about things that she witnessed which will have you pondering the very meaning of life over...

We were seated 19:15 on a Sunday with no problem. Prompt and professional service, food is delicious and just like the photos on google reviews. Great wine and lots of Grappo! Really good value for money. As a family of 3 we would highly recommend! Best of luck to...
