Trattoria Gagin — Restaurant in Comunità montana della Valtellina di Tirano

I ordered tagliatelle venison ragout and lasagne. I had high expectations after reading other reviews but both were nothing special. The lasagne was also burnt on one side.

Restaurant doesn’t offer tap water and sells bottled water instead. It also charges 2 euros for the bread basket with four stale bread in it which wasn’t mentioned upfront. I saw the waiter reusing the baskets from other tables without changing the bread which is very unhygienic. Lastly I ordered a tiramisu and the sponge fingers were hard. I’m not sure if this is another method of making tiramisu but it was quite weird having to hear the crunch everytime I scoop the dessert. Taste-wise, once again nothing special. Service...

CENA PRE CAPODANNO Siamo in provincia di Sondrio e più precisamente a Tirano dove trascorreremo il Capodanno. Festeggiamenti si, ma non prima, però, di aver provato l’esperienza del viaggio Tirano-St. Moritz sul Trenino Rosso del Bernina. Per la cena che precede quella di San Silvestro, proviamo la trattoria Gagin, nel centro storico di Tirano. Siamo in due. L’atmosfera è cordiale e familiare. La sala è già gremita ed il nostro tavolo è situato esattamente al centro. Forse lo spazio a disposizione è sovraccaricato di tavoli. Ci accomodiamo. Da bere una bottiglia di acqua naturale e Mezzo litro di Vino rosso della casa. In questo contesto ci sta e devo dire che si lascia bere. Ordiniamo un Tagliere di formaggi di varia stagionatura da dividerci. Tagliere accompagnato da una coppettina di miele ed una spolverata di noci. Buono. A seguire una Polenta taragna con formaggi locali. Buona ed abbondante. Ed infine una sorta di Spezzatino di manzo (almeno credo) annegato in una riduzione di vino rosso, decisamente godurioso e servito in abbondanza all’interno di una terrina. Quest'ultima portata è accompagnata da una polenta “mugna” (un misto tra farina bianca e di grano saraceno) che, però, non mi ha entusiasmato. Il cameriere mi chiede se gradisco un rinforzo di formaggi, il piatto è già di per sé molto impegnativo, ma io accetto comunque. Mi viene servito un piattino con una mini selezione di tre formaggi da gustare insieme alla carne. A questo aggiunge un assaggio di Chiscioi, frittelline tipiche della zona. Gentilissimo! Avevamo pensato al dolce, ma siamo giunti al capolinea, proprio non ci sta. Un caffè ed il conto. La spesa complessiva è pari a 40 euro. Direi una cifra più che onesta per una cena...

This place needs a LOT of help.

They don’t have a website, and their hours are wrong on Google. When I let them know, they laughed and clearly didn’t care.

I showed up at the time they told me to come back, and they had already sat 4 tables! Even though I knew what I wanted, the waiter made me wait until they had all had a chance to order (which didn’t happen right away).

Then I ordered, and five minutes later I’m told they don’t have it.

Also only one waiter for the entire restaurant and he clearly was overwhelmed.

What a mistake to try...
