WARNING: SCAM ALLARM You shall avoid this restaurant, if you are a foreigner. We booked this restaurant over the fork and actually have been looking forward to eating here. They are mentioned in the slow food guide (they have been awarded a snail). Upon arrival there was quite a confusion, unfortunately we got in the hands of a waiter who was everything but accommodating, a tall guy, quite bully, who takes care of the tables in the far corner of the first hall. So, the table was not ready and the mentioned waiter tried to push us back claiming we don’t have a Reservation (the restaurant was full at the moment). After presenting him a confirmation from the fork he started arranging a table for us, which took him a while. Nevertheless, we got seated, it took us another 20-30 min to order the food. We order the Florentine steak, one side dish and starter. For the steak they could only give us at least 1,3 kg, okay understandable. All in all it took for the food ages to arrive and we saw the waiter rather cleaning other tables or preparing them for Monday (we were on Saturday there and they are closed on Sunday) then taking care of our table. In the meantime the restaurant got empty, but even then it was sometimes difficult to get hold of the waiter. Then we received a bill and here we go: he put 2 side dishes and our Florentine steak suddenly became a chianina steak; we clearly ordered the Florentine steak and while we understand the quality difference, that was not our intention to eat it (not to mention sharing 1,3 kg of meat between two persons). We drew his attention to the bill: he removed the second side dish, while told us we had chianina steak. So all in all we still don’t quite understand what happened: did they serve us chianina steak? Did they serve us the Florentine steak, but the guy put the chianina steak instead to make some money on side? We just gave up, paid the bill and left. All in all it spoilt our holiday and unfortunately just confirmed the reputation the folks from Florence have. Nevertheless, unless you are fluent in Italian and okay with going there (the restaurant is next to the airport), try to avoid it. When there stick to the dishes on the menu where there is no way to trick you or any room...
Read moreI was very enthusiastic to eat here after hearing from all kinds of different sources of it’s authenticity, traditional everything, and general Tuscan-perfection, but for me it was missing something and wasn’t the dream-lunch I was hoping it would be. First-off, my boyfriend used the bathroom at the entrance between the bar and the restaurant (thankfully there is a regular small one inside) and it was Turkish-style, simple hole in the ground - which really doesn’t scream (or even whisper for that matter) - fine-dining…Which, of course, is almost ok because Tuscan meals are about simplicity and comfort flavors…right, so moving on, our server from Torino was pleasant and super on top of things and was certainly the biggest plus for this review. The restaurant has three or four different dining sections. Ours was kind of a makeshift outside, but still protected and covered area, that was warm one minute and cold the next and back and forth. The menu offered few choices and was meat-heavy. We decided to go for the largest appetizer (and it was sadly rather small) with fegato crostini that had an unappetizing texture but was warm and salty. We had red house wine and two plates of pici that were tasty but nothing to write home about. Kind of a disappointment since we made the trek all the...
Read moreOur final dinner in Florence was at @trattoriadaburde for Bisteca Florentine.
We were excited to try this Florentine dish as we are all steak lovers. My suggestion if you don’t like very rare or blue steaks is not to have this. Thankfully I like it like this but for others in our group it was borderline edible at this doneness.
The food was good and the sides of potatoes and seasonal veg were very good.
This restaurant is a bit further out and the English speaking ability is much less. We had a lot of trouble communicating. In the end Ryan spoke some Spanish which she understood a little of, and we used google translate. We managed to get everything delivered that we asked for.
The restaurant is beautiful and very large which means service can be slow.
If you are heading out here for dinner be warned that it’s very hard to get a taxi afterwards.
We were on a tight time limit as we were departing Florence late that night, so I would definitely come and try this again with someone who speaks Italian and without any time...
