Situated on the busy SS13 in Fontanafredda, Ristorante New Punjab is a bustling Indian restaurant specializing in curries and tandoor cooking. The Indian food here is a great respite from the endless pasta/pizza fare you get in Aviano. Spice gives this restaurant an edge over neighboring food palaces in the area.
I had the Lamb Vindaloo, lemon and coconut rice, garlic naan, and a mango lassi. The Vindaloo is a spicy lamb curry with potatoes. Vindaloo itself is supposed to be BLAZING hot but at New Punjab it is about a 2/5. I asked the waitress to really put some heat into it and it came out pretty spicy, about a 4/5(making me sweat a good amount). The lemon and coconut rice is of the basmati variety and it created a earthy coconut aroma at the table. The Garlic naan was a quartered warm flat bread that only hinted of garlic. To calm my heated tongue, I nursed a lassi, a thick yogurt drink infused with mango. All the food was great, albeit somewhat expensive. I paid 23 euros for all that and a beer.
Overall, this place is really a treasure to the area’s food scene, mainly because of how different the cuisine is. It’s only 15 mins away from Aviano town center and there’s a pretty good gelateria across the street. Highly...
Read moreLegitimately my wife and I think New Punjab is our favorite place for Indian in the area (Pordenone). Theres a few dishes I always buy. The Saag Ghost which is lamb morsels in a spinach cream sauce (its thiccc). Butter chicken (it's chicken morsels in a type of curry, I think? If I messed that up, correct me). Their assortment of rices are great. The biryanis are succulent and rice is not dry (rare for the area). Overall, spectacular place. Yes, I'm American. Please, don't be rude in this restaurant. It's a special place. It's great. If you want spicy, make sure you look the server in the eye and say, with dramatic pause, "Spicy... Please." She'll know...
Read moreThe food is never short of perfection! Absolutely delicious every time I go. It is so clean and healthy. Everything is always served piping hot and is presented beautifully.
The menu has many options and is also vegan and vegetarian-friendly. All dietary restrictions and food allergies are listed at the front of the menus as well. There really is a dish here for everybody.
Be sure to try the sauces they give you with whatever dish you get. The tamarind sauce, mint yogurt, and salsa piccante are all really good. They add nice flavors to every bite.
And lastly, the servers/owners are impeccable! Lovely, respectful people and they make sure you...
