Lacocina di Popolla — Restaurant in Gaeta

LaCocina di Popolla was recommended to us by the owners of the B&B we were staying at. It is a family run restaurant and we hit it on an off-season Monday. The chef/waiter is lovely and you really can tell he cares. It was two of us and the restaurant was mostly empty except for another table of 4, and a larger party that came in later. We had the risotto with shrimp and paccheri with ricciola and tomatoes + olives. We then shared the Orata with potatoes, and the owner was kind enough to just bring us a portion of the Zucchine alla Scapece. The risotto was delicate yet tasty, with the lemon zest highlighting the shrimp beautifully. The paccheri sauce was very well-balanced in all its strong flavors, with the olives really complementing the ricciola. The orata with potatoes... I can only describe it as heaven! So delicate and so tasty... The zucchine alla scapece had a wonderful light batter and a gentle vinegary zing. Be warned: you are near Southern Italy. If you are in a rush and expect fast-paced service, you will be frustrated. This place is about eating well, relaxing, and having a nice conversation with good company. I decided to leave a review, as this was not a very good experience. To begin with, service is very funny. They run this whole restaurant three people, so they are always in a rush and they never have time. We were waiting 15 min to order (although there was only one table seated). As it turns out the waiter was late to work, and we were waiting for him. After he took our and other orders, he changed uniform to Chef's and started cooking. After the restaurant was full the chef was so busy that we could not get a bill for 40 min... When I came to the kitchen so say that we are leaving, it was finally prepared. All this was funny and we wouldn't be too frustrated, but the food was really poor. The seafood salad for 18 euros almost left untouched, there was nothing good to eat, it seemed that they just defrosted the seafood and put it on the plate. No taste. I fed it all to the street cats around us, they seemed pretty happy with prawns. Fried calimari was the worst we've had so far. Moreover, we both felt quite sick after the dinner, luckily there was no food poisoning, but we didn't want to look at seafood for a few...

Questo ristorante ci è stato consigliato da diverse persone rendendo le aspettative molto alte... purtroppo la nostra esperienza è stata più che negativa. Appena ci siamo seduti la situazione sembrava già abbastanza caotica... i camerieri pochi e tanti tavoli da servire, ci è stato preso l ordine prima di portarci la carta dei vini ed anche dopo che l abbiamo richiesta è stata portata dopo un bel po di minuti.. dopo aver ordinato, per sbaglio il cameriere ci ha portato la comanda che spettava ad un'altro tavolo, e fino a cui diciamo che può succedere ed era ancora sopportabile come disagio.. ad un certo punto ci sono arrivati due piatti LETTERALEMTNE LASCIATI SUL TAVOLO SENZA ALCUNA SPIEGAZIONE Dicendo che lo chef aveva il piacere di offrirceli, senza dire cose fosse cosa fossero gli ingredienti e quando ho chiesto alla cameriera la risposta è stata ""non lo so", quindi all'interno di questi due piatti (tra l'altro non consumati perché non buoni) non si sa che cosa ci fosse e quindi potrebbe esser stato anche qualcosa a cui uno di noi era allergico...). Non finisce qui.. perché poi arriva 1 dei piatti ordinati che viene nuovamente passato in mano a mia madre con il tavolo pieno di piatti da sparecchiare (quindi senza spazio per poggiare il piatto appena arrivato) dopodiché arrivano le linguine all'astice con le quali di norma arrivano le pinze per aprire l astice... niente ho dovuto chiedere la pinza 3 volte ed aspettare 15 minuti e la pasta fredda per riceverle... Come ho detto al principio esperienza negativa purtroppo in tutto e per tutto!! Ps poveri camerieri ma il lavoro anche se pesante e stressante si affronta sempre con il sorriso.. avere un servizio pessimo con camerieri che sembra stiano soffrendo le pene dell inferno mentre ti servono in un posto dove un piatto di pasta costa €28.00 non è proprio un esperienza piacevole. Ps sarebbe stato meglio offrire uno sconto ( cosa che con mio grande stupore non è avvenuta) per la pessima cena che purtroppo abbiamo passato piuttosto che 2 piatti non richiesti con ingredienti ignoti ed un sapore che sapeva tutt'altro che di...
