Osteria Del Mare — Restaurant in Grosseto

Avoid by all means - total tourist rip-off: randomly we ended up in this restaurant after having read the menu outside with reasonable prices. After taking our seat the owner talked about special fish etc. and the waiter brought the first courses before we even had a look at the menu. We refused the dishes that we did not order and tell the waiter that it's not the way how we want to proceed. We asked for the menu. After the menu was brought we wanted to order some pasta. The owner refused to take the order for pasta as only fish is available. We smelled the obvious fraud that developed. Wine was brought that the owner praised as a special wine. Having tasted it it became obvious that it's very cheap wine. As the owner refused to take an order for pasta we said that we stop the process here and pay for the drinks and leave. This made the owner very furious and he asked us to leave the restaurant which we (very) happily did. Leaving the restaurant we have seen that the owner took our partly tasted wine and filled it back into the wine caraffe....tasty....waiting for the next trapped tourists that waited to get ripped off. DONT GO THERE... We were looking for review on tripadvisor but they were not for this restaurant but for another with same name...regret that i didnt check on this site.

Owner was very unpleased with our choice (2x pasta con fruti di mare as it was on the menu table outside for 9 eur and 2x coke...) They brought coke in can and when we asked for glass and ice, he brought two filthy glasses.we didnt tuch those... Pasta con fruti di mare looked amazing, but it was WAY to much salted...just awful. The bill... 35€... We wanted explanation for this amount... And he started to insulting us and he didnt know what to wrote down when we ask to do that for what we eat and prices... He started with coke... 2x 4€ and then he stoped and start arguing again that he will call police wich we agreed... Then he get even more nervouse and while yelling he write down 30, and no prices, nothing...if we had time and will we would insist to call the police and i regret we didn't. We paid 30€ coz we cold not listen to this idiot spiting while yelling any more after 15 minutes or soo.. Such a RESTAURANT SCAM. Call police if owner starts to act like an idiot... SCAM...

Well, we wanted to eat an easy pizza, sat down and asked for the menu.

The menu was never given, instead we received unwanted a fish menu with no clear price( a range of ramdomenss/ arbitraryness) nor explanation what’s gonna happen.

Our fault was not to stand up and run, as I personally thought” it’s Easter , ok let’s accept this menu” .. Finding out that they do it it any occasion !!shows their lack Of self respect of their work.

I bet if they would change their mind of give the client a choice, communication of a price, they might have a reason to exist. I’d have definitely eaten worse and better in my life, that’s not the point. It’s the desperation that they think that’s the only way to exist and do business. So sad for them and their mindset- maybe one day they find self respect and pride to do it differently and not exploiting g people’s decency to not immediately stand up and leave. Wish you...
