I tried to dine at "da Umberto", was put on an outside table, had to call the blond waiter several times, he understood that I was a tourist. Had to ask for evryhing waving my hand. In the end I ordered. All the other tables were being served with attention, I was alone so obviously not much to gain... I when in the end i asked for bread which had been brought to all the tables as soon as they ordered. I waited and obviously had to raise my hand since nobody was paying attention to me, I was really upset with the way I was being treated. I got up and went to pay, never said I had to go to away, I had asked him beforehand and he said not to worry he was going to explain late. The blond waier told me 8 euro something and charged my card with €25 euros. I am prepared to go to hell and back to recover the money. I passed a horrible, 30/40 minutes, had to buy a sandwich on the way. I have travelled all over the world, went to wonderful restaurants but the "Da Umberto" actually appropriated the money wrongfully. The blond waiter was so unpleant! When I called to ask why the charge of 25 euros, he insulted me by cutting the phone call. Ischia should be particularly attentive to tourists, specially to a woman who is alone. I have just read their answer to my review, I never booked the table, the waiter told me to go and do my shopping and come back. I asked whether I was going to find a free table and he said"no problem" Their reply to my review is full of lies. I never checked the bill since it comes out only when you've paid, they never showed it to me before and nobody laughed since the cashier's the is not really close to tables and we barely spoke. I certainly didn't raise my voice. When I got back I saw that I had been charged €25. When somebody lies like that they are definitely not correct. I am really suprised that it was worth their while for 17/18 euros to...
Read moreI ordered lasagna, as I started to eat I found it to be very cold in the centre. Obviously straight from the fridge and popped in the microwave. I sent it back but not a word of apology from the staff. I received a replacement which seemed to have been microwaved to a temperature akin to the surface of the sun and was almost completely devoid of any form of meat. After I had finished I noticed a large crack in the bowl which judging by the colour must have been there for some time. A perfect breeding pIace for bacteria especially given the temperature of the first food offering. Basic food hygiene. I pointed this out to the waiter who just didn't seem to care. The place looks okay on the outside but is a typical tourist trap that dishes up bland badly prepared food to tourists who will never be back. Avoid this place I'm sure there will be better. The reply from the restaurant is nonsense who makes cracked tableware. My wife eating her meal has nothing to do with the state of...
Read moreFriendly service which unfortunately doesn’t compensate for the bad food. Everything seemed to have been made with cheap, tasteless ingredients. Pasta with mussels and tomatoes contained about 10 mussel shells of which 3 were empty and 2 were shut tight (therefore not edible). Didn’t leave much for the tastebuds except pretty plain spaghetti with little to no garlic, a mere smidgen of olive oil and a couple of little tomatoes.
Asking for more oil, pepper and salt resulted in a basket of pre-packaged olive oil in a 1-portion plastic sachet. Same for the salt and pepper. Not very environmentally friendly, nor a particularly good sign for the food. It was so bland. Why not put out some salt and pepper mills and a nice bottle of olive oil? This is Italy! Salad came without any dressing/oil too.
All in all a culinary disappointment. Not cheap either. But the staff were...
