On our last evening in Sardinia, we landed at L’Ancora, mostly out of convenience to its proximity to the stunning La Pelosa beach. It was the best meal we had all week, with impeccable food and the service. I live in New York City and can rarely can afford to eat at a restaurant with this level of hospitality and excellence. Certainly not for their prices, which are not very elevated compared to other spots on the island—the reviews which indicate otherwise leave me 200% confounded. Last rave: leave room for the zucchotto al pistacchio, a dessert we’d never heard of but was a divine combination of bitter and sweet, complex and interesting—really refined, just like the restaurant.

The food here was more expensive and of substantially less quality of anywhere we ate in Rome (this includes sit-down restaurants and take-away counters). If you are someone who requires excellent service at the expense of all else, then this place is for you. However, if quality food is your primary objective when looking for a meal, then I would look elsewhere (we ate at a much lower end restaurant a couple minutes away called Il Gabbiani that was significantly better at a third the price). As a point of reference, this Italian food was remarkably similar to some we ate at an airport in London (also 1/4 the price). Very...
Read moreFantastic spot with delicious food and incredibly kind staff! We loved it so much, we ended up dining here countless times during our stay. Located right on the beach, it's the perfect place to take a break from sunbathing and enjoy a refreshing drink or a tasty meal in the shade. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere made it feel like a little oasis. It even made this beach our favorite, surpassing even the famous Pelosa. During the day, entertainers kept the vibe fun and lively, adding to the holiday spirit without being intrusive. Great food, lovely people, and the perfect...
