We dined at Riki’s Restaurant in Lido di Jesolo, Italy, tonight, and unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we were met with an unwelcoming reception, which, after observing throughout our meal, we are certain came from the owner himself. He tossed the menus onto our table with the attitude of a sassy teenager and walked off without so much as a greeting. In hindsight, I should have trusted my instincts and left right then and there, but hunger and the prospect of searching for another restaurant in the 32-degree heat kept us seated.
As for the food, the experience was mixed at best. We started with mussels, which were fresh and well-prepared in a mildly spiced tomato sauce. My partner and I shared and enjoyed the starter. However, things went downhill from there. My wife ordered a prawn and tuna salad, which, at a steep €16, consisted of nothing more than a bed of lettuce, tinned tuna, a few slices of cherry tomato, and frozen prawns. It was a disgraceful offering that I could have easily replicated for less than €5 with ingredients from the grocery store next door.
I opted for the lasagna, which, while made with what seemed to be fresh pasta, was sadly overcooked and underwhelming. The French fries were the only saving grace of the meal—perfectly cooked and seasoned.
The service, or lack thereof, further marred our evening. Our drinks order was forgotten, and when we politely reminded the staff, we were met with nothing but a rude glare. After clearing our dishes, a paper bag of bread was left on the table, only for the same surly gentleman who greeted us to rudely snatch it away as he passed by without a word.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone—not...
