The food wasn't exceptional, and perhaps the cooks were taking a day off, or it's because the off-season had just started, but I expected more from the 160€ I spent on dinner.
We were a party of three: my daughter had the steak, which I also had, and I'll give credit where credit is due—the steak was good. However, the slaw they served the steaks with was SOOOO salty it was unedible.
My wife had two seafood dishes. My wife is Sicilian, born and raised in Catania, and we spend a good part of the year in Sicily and are accustomed to quality seafood. She got subpar: Chewy squid and a shoe-sole fish plate.
I had what was supposed to be Aeolian caponata, which was ok but nothing special. Then, I had stuffed tortellini, which tasted frozen, served in what tasted like canned pizza sauce with chunks of whole onion? That's a question. I'm not quite sure what the pieces were.
The place was packed by the time I paid the bill. The food was ok but far from worth its ratings. Like I said, perhaps the restaurant brought in the B-team cooks tonight.
I need to be convinced to eat here again. Foul me once, so the saying goes. I said...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel next door and just wanted an easy, nothing-complicated, yummy dinner. Walking by this place, we noticed that the pizza looked and smelled really good… We’re so glad we tried it because it was delicious! We had a Margherita pizza, and pizza alla Norma (Sicilian specialty featuring sautéed eggplants and ricotta salata). The highlight of our dinner, though, was our server, Hicham. He was so lovely and welcoming, he recommended the Norma when we told him we love local Sicilian flavors, and he was just a delight every time we interacted with him. He speaks several languages, too, so he can help if you don’t speak Italian (we do, but we heard him helping other tourists in their languages and he was great). This is a simple restaurant with everything you want: relaxing and lovely atmosphere, warm lighting, outdoor seating, appropriate prices, friendly and welcoming staff, and most importantly, delicious local food. We’ll be back next time we’re in Salina. Grazie mille, Hicham!...
Read moreThis is a lovely restaurant with a large number of tables in three areas: there several next to the relatively quiet road, an indoor area and another at the back. The tablecloths and napkins are linen which is a nice touch. The seats are wrought iron and not the most comfortable - I found the horizontal bar dug into my back. The menu is very good and there is a good choice of wines too. The olive oil used to dip the bread in had the most wonderful taste. We thoroughly enjoyed our choices of Calamari Malvasia and Salina Bianco Colosi preceded by Focaccia. Service was nice and friendly, though a bit quick - we had not quite finished the Focaccia when our main dish arrived! Our meal was rounded off by Tiramisu Malvasia which was delicious. 😋 Thoroughly...
