Well, what a whirlwind of an experience, but an amazing one at that! We were looking for in town wine tasting in Malfa, saw Fenech on the map, and decided to give it a go. We got there and noticed a tour in progress, so we stepped to the side so we could ask a question about doing a tasting. Well the heavens opened up and dropped all the rain it had on us. Francesco was kind enough to bring us inside with the tour group. After they finished their questions about the wine making process and the wines in general, they sat down for a multi course meal while the wines were being tasted. Being the amazing host he is, it was insisted that we join. As the rain poured down, we ended up having an amazing time tasting delicious wine, eating delicious homemade food (the focaccia might have been the best and lightest I've had) with local ingredients, and sharing much laughter due to Francesco's story telling and good humor. I highly recommend stopping by Fenech for some wine if you're in Malfa, just be sure to call and make an...
Read moreThe 1 star and even 3 star reviews are completely wrong. The staff is very nice with great conversations. Mr Fenech has a bubbly personality and pours generous tastings. They served a salad from 100% homegrown and organic ingredients, tasty bread with caper pesto, more toast and olives, sweet breadsticks with sesame seeds, 5 wines and 4 hard alcohols. By the end of the tasting we were exuberant... in fact it is hard to type this review right now because I am still feeling good. He explained his life story and the history of the Fenech family, he is an endless bundle of joy and his coworker can translate to english if needed. Additionally they had wifi and a bathroom. For americans or people of first world countries, this wine tasting may seem ill prepared or disorganized but as a Californian, I LOVED this winery and wine tasting and would rather have this than any "high caliber" tasting I am used to. PLEASE come here and talk to mr Fenech even if you dont pay for a tasting or...
Read moreThis unplanned stop was one of those experiences I'll remember forever. Despite being in Italy for over a week, this was one of the first truly authentic experiences that transports you to simpler times. The place was under construction and somewhat unassuming, but the table we sat at had beautiful views and a perfect breeze. Francesco, the owner and master of many crafts, gave us a mildly tepid greeting at first, leaving us to wonder about what was going to happen. Then he proceeds to bring out rounds of delicious wines, multiple super tasty bites, and even a fresh homemade potato salad with the capers he also grows and sells. Then the dessert wines came out, including grappa, vermouth and limoncello. We left on cloud 9! Please visit Francesco and taste the fruits of his labor while hearing about him incredible family history...
