Amazing haute level of refined cooking in a warm atmosphere in MontCalvo.
Recommended by our Airbnb host we headed out to MonCalvo with zero expectations. A Warm reception by the owner and staff, seated at (large) table overlooking the dining room. Although the first impression : a bit formal, however we quickly took to the warmth of the personal service and atmosphere. No snobs just people enjoying their Saturday evening dinner in the European way (unrush).
From the amuse bouche to the last morsel, this was cooking on a very haute level without pretense. Fresh ingredients - excellent creations and combinations that felt both light as a refined. The portions were generous but not overwhelming.
Starters:
Crispy (light) breaded egg with braised celery Vitello Tonnato
60hrs cooked beef short rib - pan seared (I already started eating as it smelled heavenly so the pic doesn’t do the dish justice). Fresh pasta with Truffle.
Every dish came out like a little insta worthy post - elegant but tasted even better.
We skipped the dessert but had major envy when they brought out a beautiful poached pear with ice cream! Next time.

Read moreAbsolutely amazing white truffle lunch. The tartare and the fried egg were to die for, generous dose of truffle! The angiolini and tagliolini were also absolutely delicious. Pricing was fair, in line with the current white truffle price per kg.
The only problem was the service, slow and disorganized. A cutlery missing, a beer glass not offered, a long waiting time between dishes. The restaurant was full and it felt like they were understaffed. For us it was okay - didn't complain, it was the 2 of us. Hopefully we didn't come with the full family otherwise the waiting would have been problematic.
