An amazing restaurant set in the picturesque mountain village of di montalto! I went to la finestrella with my dad, stepmum, step sister and her two children whilst on holiday visiting family. The service was great, very friendly and efficient! The owners (Stephanie front of house and her husband the chef) were great! We had anti pasti to start - little tastes of Italy and very filling. I had the gnocchi with a very tasty and spicy arribata sauce (they weren't on the menu together but they put it together for me when I asked) my dad and step sister had the seafood cannelloni special... A mountain of muscles and king prawns which they both loved. My stepmum had mushroom tagliatelle and the children had penne carbonara and they all thought their meals were delicious. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing. It was also great value for money and we even got to try a shot of home made grappa on the house! I highly recommend la finestrella to anyone that loves tasty, authentic Italian food at a great price! I just can't wait to go back...

Unfortunately the day we arrived (Wednesday) the restaurant is closed but the friendly, outgoing Stephanie made a call and arranged for us to have dinner at a restaurant at the bottom of the hill. The room was clean with a nice bathroom. Our window looked out onto the rooftops of Montalto and we slept to the sound of the rushing river below. Our breakfast the next morning was memorable and more than ample.||The village is very old and very quiet, a maze of passageways, and quite a few cats (interesting). Although it is only about 12 miles from the coast it feels like a very different place. It would make a good base for exploring villages nearby and cycle training (we saw numerous...
