La Mattanza — Restaurant in Palermo

*disclaimer: this review is based purely on my experience of the service provided by the staff (which was horrific)

If the staff set out to provide us with the worst dining experience we’ve ever had, they certainly succeeded. We should have left the moment they looked us up down and had to check with three different people whether there was room for us in the empty restaurant.

They were the complete opposite of friendly and maybe said a total of five words to us the whole time we were there. They didn’t offer us water, we had to ask, and then didn’t give us a choice of still or sparkling when other tables were given the choice. They were obviously very anti-foreign-tourist because all of the Italian-speaking patrons were given cloth serviettes whereas we were given paper ones, they were given complimentary bread and olive oil for the table and we weren’t. We were offered a basic drinks list with only beer or wine, the other tables were receiving cocktails. And to top it off they stared at us the whole time we were eating. They also charged €2.50 per person as a service fee when they provided the bare minimum service. Absolute joke. If I could give zero...

Quite disappointing really. I walked from a local hotel , along a litter strewn smelly street , to this particular restaurant as I understood it to be a seafood place . I ordered a prawn cocktail. The prawns were very small and clearly had been previously frozen, piled up on a mountain of very unattractively served lettuce leaves. To top it off there was a huge amount of Marie Rose sauce that was clearly not home-made. I found the sight of this particular first course so disgusting I didn’t eat any of it.

The second course was a grilled fresh fish. The fish was almost incinerated in it’s cooking and was served with chips that were not edible due to the fact they have been fried in ancient oil and, yet again, another bowl of the very unattractive lettuce. I didn’t eat anything during this lunch.

The view of the sea was lovely but overall not...

Bel posto affacciato sul mare,ma di positivo c'è solo questo. Siamo in 2 Arriviamo nel locale ad ora di pranzo,ci hanno assegnato un tavolo nella "terrazza" non climatizzata dove letteralmente si moriva di caldo, c'erano presenti solo 2 areatori .. quindi chiediamo di essere spostati dentro(locale climatizzato piccolo con il forno a legna accesso...) chiediamo un antipasto x 2 persone e ci viene portato un piatto con 1 ostrica , 4 gamberetti(cocktail di gamberi)1 fettina di salmone ed 1 fettina di pesce spada affumicato 1 ciotolina di caponata ed 1 cucchiaiata di insalata di mare ( per la bellezza di €20) l'antipasto viene portato subito con 1 calice di vino ed una bottiglia d'acqua. Passiamo al primo..... passa mezz'ora... passano 45minuti.... e ci informiamo con il cameriere (gentile) a che punto fosse la preparazione,ci risponde che hanno appena messo in cottura la pasta... siamo arrivati ad 1 ora di attesa (x 2 primi) ed ancora nulla... ed intanto persone accanto a noi che erano arrivate dopo di noi,avevano finito o meglio , lasciato quasi tutta x intero la pasta lamentando sabbia nel piatto e cottura troppo troppo al dente.. Siamo arrivato ad 1 ora e 15 minuti di attesa e vado a lamentarmi con il proprietario,il quale mi risponde che la pasta è pronta gliela stanno portando ora al tavolo e con nonchalance rimbalza la mia lamentela dove io chiedevo se fosse NORMALE ASPETTARE 1 ORA E 15 MINUTI x avere 2 piatti di pasta e mi risponde dicendo ho controllato le telecamere x vedere l'orario del suo arrivo ed insisteva che non fosse passato tutto quel tempo, giustamente continuo a lamentarmi perché oltre al "ritardo" per la pasta nel frattempo sia il vino che l'acqua sono diventati imbevibili per colpa del caldo. La pasta "Pacchero Bronte" immangiabile perché dura, praticamente cruda.L'altro piatto"spaghetto sabbiato" salato. Visti i lunghi tempi di attesa e la delusione dei primi piatti, rinunciamo al secondo ed andiamo a pagare, li troviamo nuovamente il proprietario che continuava a ribadire che non fosse passata un'ora e 15minuti di attesa dei primi e che se io avessi avuto premura di mangiare avrei dovuto recarmi al ristorante alle 13 (noi siamo entrati alle13:40) Un proprietario così scortese non può far altro che far scappare i clienti, per non parlare del rapporto qualita/prezzo che risulta assolutamente inadeguato! Di sicuro non riproverò questo...
