Taverna Dei Boncompagni Piombino — Restaurant in Piombino

My wife and I have been to many restaurants. The Taverna Dei Boncompagni is easily the best restaurant we have ever been to, not just the best one we experienced during our trip to Italy. The atmosphere is heightened by the owner Simone's charm and attention.

In our short 3 day stay in Piombino we made sure to eat there twice. The first time we had a series of courses that were exquisite. Even though I am not normally a seafood lover, the food was amazing. We asked Simone to select a good wine to accompany our meal, and the one he chose went perfectly with the dishes.

Very arrogant waiters. We couldn’t get the aperitif we wanted because they only do white/red wine, water and/or beer. Okay, no problem. Than they said they only do fish. Again, no problem. The food was very good but after that we had to wait more than 20 minutes for our bill. Every time we tried to get their attention, they disregarded us. In the end, when we left they came out with the bill. Yes, they were busy but why didn’t they wave at us and said the bill would come in a minute? Then we would not have had a problem. Delusione dopo un anno di fiducia

Frequentiamo questo ristorante da circa un anno e abbiamo sempre apprezzato la qualità del pesce, fresco, ben cucinato e anche ben servito. Proprio per la fiducia costruita nel tempo, questa volta – eravamo io e mia moglie – ci siamo lasciati consigliare dal gestore senza fare troppe domande.

Avevamo chiesto dei bicchieri di vino e ci sono state servite bottigliette da 25 cl, poi ritrovate in conto a 36 euro. Il piatto principale, un San Pietro al forno cucinato in modo semplice, è stato proposto direttamente dal gestore – senza indicarci il prezzo – e ci è stato fatto pagare 128 euro.

L’antipasto non era nostra intenzione ordinarlo, ma il gestore ce lo ha consigliato dicendoci che la cottura del San Pietro avrebbe richiesto circa 40 minuti. Ci siamo fidati e lo abbiamo condiviso.

Con due caffè alla fine, il conto totale per due persone è arrivato a 195 euro. Un importo che ci ha sinceramente sorpresi, soprattutto considerando la nostra continuità come clienti. Quando si ha una certa frequenza, ci si aspetta trasparenza e correttezza: se viene proposto un piatto fuori menù, il prezzo dovrebbe essere indicato chiaramente, come qualunque cliente alla sua prima visita si aspetterebbe.

Nota a parte: siamo arrivati con 15 minuti di ritardo e abbiamo comunque dovuto aspettare altri 15 minuti per il tavolo. Nulla di grave, ma anche questo contribuisce a un’esperienza complessivamente poco positiva.

Purtroppo, dopo quest’ultima esperienza, abbiamo seri dubbi se tornare ancora.
