Pizzeria Fratelli D’Auria — Restaurant in Pisa

This was my first meal in Italy so I wanted to wait until I'd had a few more before reviewing. But I can now confirm this places is really amazing food!

The arrincini to start was absolutely delicious and the pizza, genuinely one of the best I've ever had, although admittedly I am from England and never been to Italy before.

It was a bit annoying as I made the classic error of ordering a white pizza (ham and truffle oil), and the reason I did this is because the first 10 or so pizzas on the menu are all white pizzas. It was only until after I looked at the menu and saw all the tomatoes pizza were right at the bottom (and €5 cheaper! :(). I would have preferred a tomatoes base and find it a bit weird that they were at the bottom. But im not used to Italy so that may be the norm at more local places. Despite this, it was still an incredible pizza.

Service could have been a bit friendlier, but I had just landed in Italy with absolutely 0 Italian and gone straight to a very local place that likely doesn't see too many tourists, so it was sort of fair enough. I was a big fan of their very efficient button system for calling a waiter, saved a lot of awkward waving...

Pizzeria napoletana non lontana dall'aeroporto... il locale principale è piccolino e offre pochi posti a sedere ma a pochi metri c'è una sorta di veranda chiusa e arredata stile "urban jungle" con altri posti (un po stretti).

Appena arrivati l'accoglienza è stata ottima ma durante la cena il servizio è stato poco attento infatti, appena ricevute le pizze avevamo chiesto dell'olio piccante che è arrivato a metà cena e solo dopo averlo richiesto mentre peggio è andata per la seconda birra visto che non è mai arrivata 😅 insomma, sul tavolo c'è un dispositivo digitale per interagire con il personale ma se poi non c'è un riscontro serve a poco.

Il menù, digitale e disponibile tramite qrcode, è molto ricco infatti, oltre alle pizze classiche si possono scegliere quelle contemporanee, fritte, a doppia cottura e persino a vapore inoltre, è possibile scegliere 3 tipi di impasto: normale, integrale e multicereali. Ottimo anche l'assortimento delle birre, sia artigianali in bottiglia sia alla spina.

Le pizza sono buone anche se un po' piccole e poco condite (il bordo oltre a essere alto come deve essere sulle contemporanee è anche largo e in generale c'è poco di fior di latte)... in particolare la pizza alla norma ci ha un po' delusi poiché risultava asciutta e tutti gli ingredienti non si amalgamano affatto tra loro... meglio la tacco e punta con salsiccia e patate al forno.

La nota dolente sono i prezzi, decisamente più alti della media, ma, a mio avviso, non del tutto giustificati infatti, nonostante la qualità dei prodotti si avverte, ho mangiato pizze migliori spendendo meno (52,20€ per 2 pizze, 2 birre e 2 caffè) e soprattutto la location e la zona sono modeste (potrei giustificare qualche euro in più sul conto se fossi seduto a piazza di spagna o, volendo rimanere a pisa, in una location vista torre pendente... a tal proposito la domanda che sorge spontanea è: quanto farebbero pagare la stessa pizza se ti trovassero in una location esclusiva?).

Insomma, ancora una volta mi sono imbattuto in una pizzerie che ha un po' perso il valore del denaro... pizza con ingredienti semplici a 15€ mentre quelli più ricercati fino 22, 24......

Such a vivid little find. Would've never found it if I didn't decide to walk to town. The atmosphere was electric. It must be where all the locals went because it was absolutely packed. And for good reason!

The twice cooked pizza was so unique and special and is a must try. A creative twist on the original. Crispy but still maintains that core Italian flavour.

The classics were amazing too you just can't go wrong. Somehow they managed to get the flavours so pure and so simple.

What was incredibly surprising was the BÁBÁ dessert. Something that's special to the region! Took me completely off guard and is a must try.
