La Botte Gaia — Restaurant in Porto Azzurro

Top experience! I realize that this restaurant has already an extremely big amount of great reviews, but I'd still like to mention our satisfaction as well. As starters, we took oysters and a raw seafood platter. The crudités were presented in a very simple manner, giving one a chance to flavour them as one likes. (Which is right, only in a simple way crudités can show their real flavour) The pastas and main dishes were excellent as well. The flavours were more adventurous (cacao pasta combined with sea urchin, and codfish combined with truffle), but suited very well. Also compliments for the fresh truffle: it had a lot of flavour for a black truffle (we've had occasions in other restaurants where the truffle had almost no flavour). A great original dessert finished our dinner. We had a try of the fig pastry with ice-cream, sabaglione and the pistachio tiramisu. Again all 3 very good. We were also very satisfied with the recommended local wines. And above all, big thumbs up for the service! Only the other night, we were at another nice dinner, but their service left a bitter taste, influencing the overall experience. Instead, here we had waiters that knew what they were serving, were able to make professional recommendations and served us in a polite tone and with a smile. We will definitely come...

The restaurant La Botte Gaia has no beach view nor a garden view. It is located in the city and has a kind of huge roofed terrace. The welcoming was a bit posh but it seems to belong to this restaurant as they give it a kind of classy touch. Prices for the dishes are therefore higher as usual. The service at the table was very professional, nice and friendly. The food we have ordered was well prepared and nicely presented. However the presentation of the risotto was a bit strange with the sauce going all around on top. It didn't hit my taste as it was a bit bland. The main courses were however nice and tasty. The restaurant is furthermore pet friendly and we have received a table a bit a part so that we wouldn't disturb anyone although our dog is normally calm and relaxed. All good. In conclusion, the restaurant is not on the seaside but...

Purtroppo, devo esprimere tutta la mia delusione per la mia ultima visita a Botte Gaia. Ho notato un drastico calo nella qualità dei piatti rispetto alle precedenti esperienze. Il crudo di pesce, che una volta era un punto di forza del ristorante, è stato una grande delusione: mancava totalmente di presentazione e, cosa più grave, la qualità degli ingredienti lasciava molto a desiderare. In particolare, la tartare di tonno era praticamente più nervo che carne, al punto che ho dovuto restituirla immediatamente.

L’unica nota positiva della serata è stata la professionalità del maitre, sempre attento e cortese, che è stato l'unico a chiedermi se la cena fosse di mio gradimento. Il titolare, invece, non si è minimamente preoccupato di chiedere un feedback al momento del conto, dimostrando un totale disinteresse per l’esperienza dei clienti. Sarebbe opportuno che imparasse dal suo stesso personale, che ha mostrato una cura e una dedizione molto superiori.

Inoltre, il bagno in comune tra uomini e donne è inaccettabile per un ristorante di questo livello, compromettendo ulteriormente l'esperienza complessiva. È un peccato vedere come questo ristorante, un tempo tra i miei preferiti, abbia abbassato così tanto i propri standard. —— Risposta al commento: Nemmeno mi ha comunicato a voce l’importo totale, ha semplicemente preso il POS e ha inserito l’importo. Le uniche parole che ha detto al momento del conto erano “le serve la copia dello scontrino?” Forse per un feedback su come fosse andata la cena è stato chiesto ad un’altro cliente, a me di sicuro non ha chiesto niente.
