Trattoria Pizzera da Mimmo Il Ciclista — Restaurant in Potenza

My partner and I visited on the way to Matera. We were greeted by Mimmo who was very lovely and welcoming. As we can’t speak Italian, his nephew Fabio took care of our order. Fabio spoke excellent English and gave great guidance in terms of meals to choose from and the menu. We had the bruschetta as a starter - the tomatoes were delicious and sweet. For the main we had strascinati with breadcrumbs and peppers and orecchiette with spicy sausage. They were both simple home style meals that were well priced with good portion sizes (pictures you see are halved portions as they split them between my partner and I) and had really nice flavor. We found this by chance on a Sunday when it seemed all of Potenza was closed. It's tucked back a bit off the road but so wonderful! The local people explained to us how the different dishes were made. The owner & staff were very welcoming. We had lasagna, a thick pasta with bacon, a veal in wine sauce with mashed potatoes. We could not resist dessert of tiramasu and a Sicilian cake with nuts & chocolate. Not everyone liked the house red wine, but you may also order by the bottle, which I did. Don't miss it! We had a warm welcome and the best experience in this family restaurant, and received the best advice regarding the choice of dishes. This is how I tasted one of the best pasta I ever had in my life : the strascinati con mollica e peperoni. The taste of the pasta was so good, I’ll always remember it. The other dishes were really good and fresh too. The service was really nice, as they were splitting the dishes between us 2, so that we could taste more things.
