Trattoria dell'Oste alla Brace — Restaurant in Santa Marinella

Don't judge this book by it's cover! I am a big lover of BBQ/grill/steakhouses, so naturally I was looking forward to my visit here as it "the second best restaurant" in Santa Marinella. Sure, it looked (and smelled) the part, but all of the various meats and sides of grilled veggies I tried were average at best. I did not finish any of the meats, not even the grilled veggies. Most of the mini lamb chops were inedible due to the fat content. Even the tiny pork skewers were chewy. The only seasoning found was salt. No marination, spices, herbs or sauces. I managed to get some classic American BBQ sauce to give it some more flavor. Small portions. The best dish was pasta carbonara with truffle. The dish was very rich, flavourful and the spaghetti of good quality, although slightly undercooked. The wine was fine, nothing special, the bread smelled great but a bit hard/dense/stale.

The place was busy, but heavily understaffed with just two frustrated waiters. The chef was very nice and super quick, even spoke English, but the waiting time for ordering and paying was poor. So was the overworked waiters' attitude and attention. Communication was difficult and they did not make us feel welcome.

My only guess why this place has such good reviews is because it is one of the only places in the area that specializes in something other than seafood or pizza. Or maybe I was unlucky and they had a particularly bad day, but this was nothing very disappointing – any other 'forno a legna' will be similar or better,...

Le poche volte che sono stata in questo locale mi sono trovata abbastanza bene, per questo sono tornata con delle aspettative abbastanza alte, ma che purtroppo sono state deluse dalla scortesia del personale, dalla poca attenzione e cura del cliente ed infine da una gestione poco efficiente della cucina. Più precisamente, le cameriere andavano e venivano dal servizio esterno lasciando la porta aperta costringendo i commensali della sala interna a patire il freddo. Abbiamo chiesto gentilmente di poter chiudere la porta ma ci è stato risposto dalla suddetta di non preoccuparsi che il locale si sarebbe poco a poco riscaldato. Risposta approssimativa e poco credibile, in quanto la continua corrente d'aria fredda non avrebbe potuto far si che la stanza rimanesse calda. Data la risposta abbiamo chiesto di essere spostati in un tavolo libero più appartato, ma anche lì ci hanno negato la possibilità dicendoci che era prenotato ( Non credo che un cliente riservi un tavolo in particolare, una gentilezza a noi che già eravamo lì si poteva fare, soprattutto perché il lasciare la porta aperta ogni minuto è una negligenza dello staff) Detto questo, il mio compagno e un altro signore di un altro tavolo, nonostante le continue richieste, si sono dovuti alzare a turno per chiudere la porta, cosa impensabile per chi si sta godendo una cena pagando. Il signore in questione, essendo in più anziano, infine esausto dalla situazione si è visto costretto a consumare il pasto col giaccone indosso, noi abbiamo sopportato. Per quanto riguarda la carne hanno portato al tavolo le nostre ordinazioni ma quella del mio compagno era sbagliata, la stessa cameriera non ha detto nulla ma noi essendocene accorti l'abbiamo richiamata e fatto notare l'errore, lei solo in quel momento lo ha ammesso e solo dopo ce l'ha fatta rifare: se chiedo e pago 25€ una entrecote media cottura non puoi portarmi una tagliata stracotta e non avvisarmi prima tu dell'errore pensando che tanto io non me ne accorga. La carne va all'etto ma non essendo un servizio professionale non ti fanno vedere il peso della carne che poi ti arriva al tavolo. Una tagliata carbonizzata mangiata al freddo senza alcuna gentilezza dalla cameriera hanno fatto si che questo posto perdesse molti punti. Carne discutibilmente buona. C'è di meglio.

Consiglio: se le cameriere non hanno l'accortezza di chiudere la porta che i titolari optassero per...

We ordered entrecôte, they said they would cook them medium. The price was also set pr 100gr, but you could not choose how many grams of meat you wanted. When we asked, they told us the entrecôte was around 300-400gr.

When we finally got the food the meat was in fact not medium cooked, but well done. Had a nice crust, but it was hard to chew and very disappointing. Did not even taste meat at that point (the roasted potatoes were nice).

When we got the bill they charged us 25€ for 400gr. A bit of a surprise when we got told it was around 300-400gr, but it would have been ok if it was in fact cooked the way we asked (medium). Will...
