Ristorante Osteria Cappellino — Restaurant in Sciacca

We first went there for a glass of wine in the evening: we tried 4 different types and they were all good, the grillo was my favorite. We were offered some munchies (fish arancini and .. - don't remember now) and they were very good. So we decided to go back for a proper dinner, and we are very happy for that - with a couple of caveats: the menu has two tiers and... it is not printed anywhere. To get the "special" plates you probably just need to ask, and don't get taken away by the food: always ask how much things cost and the amount of food. The owner took care of our order, with some fresh/marinated fish as appetizer (the red shrimps were delicious!), a great pasta with local greens and shrimp, and a grilled mixed fish plate (this was good, nothing to scream for). Dining in Sicily is always an adventure. This location had seating outside in a alley/courtyard. The atmosphere was interesting with lights hanging above and music playing. When we asked for a menu we were told there isn't one. Ok? The server told us they will prepare a fixed price menu for 40 euros of a starter along with a main and second dish of fish and pasta. This was not what we wanted but chose to stay for something a little less and paid 30 euros per person. While the food was fine it was not anything special. first, this is a simple trattoria offering characteristic local home cuisine, the best we can judge, with the TV on all the time, a mix of tourists and locals. It might be possible to order a la carte but friendly host defaulted to fixed menu and we went along. the ample mix of dishes presented as appetizers and primi seems to change over the course of the evening according to cook's preference. Appetizers were the best part, good frying and egglplant dish, pastas somewhat repetitious though. fish secondo grilled with breadcrumbs acceptable but not as good as we had elsewhere.
