Osteria La Piccola — Restaurant in Sestri Levante

We come to Sestri quite often and we always save this place for the night before we leave because we like to save the best til last. Being away from all the tourist traps, this place is the real deal. The mother and son team are so friendly, they even remember us by now. The cute little outdoor area out the back is also so lovely. It's like dining at your favourite friend's house, except they're a chef. The food is always delicious, carefully prepared, balanced flavours, fresh, interesting and lovingly made. Last night we had the tuna tartare and the stuffed muscles for entree, my partner had the fish ravioli, and then I had the baked fish Ligurian style, while he had a different traditional fish dish. We had dessert too, and the delicious homemade mandarin liqueur, like limoncello but different and more delicious. It was all mouth watering and we had a fun night there, as we always do. The son went out of his way to make us feel welcome, included and like a friend. As I said in a previous review, get away from the tourist area and find some of the gems on via Nationale. Great gem in Sestri Levante! Every dish was delicious and I went there already twice to try all the options I possibly could eat. If the weather allows you to, I suggest staying outside on the terrace. Everything is well curated with a nice touch, from the plates and cutleries, to the warm welcome of the staff. Feels like home. Benvenuti a "una serata da incubo"!! Arrivati sul posto all'orario di apertura (19:30) ordiniamo la cena alle 19:40. Il locale è discretamente grande e i tavoli occupati erano pochi (5/6) ma siamo stati messi tutti vicini, con il risultato che si faceva fatica a parlare e a sentire ciò che si diceva per il troppo rumore proveniente dagli altri tavoli. Per mangiare abbiamo dovuto aspettare quasi un'ora e mezza (ordinato alle 19:40 serviti alle 21:00) ed eravamo a metà settimana in Aprile, non nel fine settimana in estate... eravamo si e no una quindicina di persone in tutto quella sera nel locale. Noi 2 siamo stati serviti per ultimi quando altri 2 tavoli entrati dopo, erano già sl secondo. Nell'attesa, vado in bagno e nonostante la presenza di 2 lavandini, non c'era né sapone, né carta per lavarsi e asciugarsi le mani. Torno al tavolo e per ingannare l'attesa, la cameriera ci porta un piattino con delle frittatine (4 di numero e piccolissime). Dopo quasi 90 minuti d'attesa arrivano i nostri 2 piatti: antipasto misero e insapore: se me lo faccio io a casa lo faccio piu buono sicuramente, Il mio primo sapeva di tutto tranne che di quello che doveva sapere, l'altro era discretamente buono. Finiti i 2 piatti, il deserto dei tartari......nessuno che ci viene a chiedere se volevamo un dolce, un caffè o altro ancora. Decidiamo quindi di andare via per non prolungare ulteriormente questa agonia. Alla cassa il colpo di grazia finale: quasi 50 euro per 1 antipasto, 1 primo e 1 secondo, senza aver preso altro, decisamente troppo.
