La Lanterna Restaurant — Restaurant in Sestri Levante

We decided to visit La Lanterna based on its strong reviews, but unfortunately, we left disappointed. We ordered three dishes: the trofie al pesto, pansoti con salsa di noci, and grilled vegetables. All three arrived lukewarm or cold, giving the impression they weren’t freshly prepared.

The trofie al pesto was decent, though unremarkable — but more concerning, we found what was clearly a fly in the dish (wings and legs intact). When we brought it to our waitress’s attention, she kindly took the plate to the kitchen. She was professional and understanding throughout. However, the dish was returned to us with the explanation — apparently from the chef or manager — that the “fly” was actually an ingredient from the pesto. We initially accepted this, but as the meal went on, it became clear the staff was not being forthright. If it truly wasn’t a fly, why had the “ingredient” been removed before the dish was returned?

We chose not to press the issue further, but the way it was handled — offering no solution and brushing aside our concern — felt dismissive. The pansoti con salsa di noci was edible but tasted like it had been made with frozen pasta, was served cold, and lacked depth of flavor. The grilled vegetables were the most enjoyable part of the meal, though again, they arrived cold.

While we didn’t enjoy the food, I do want to emphasize that our waitresses were very kind and attentive, and we appreciated their efforts.

A L'ancora non più di 1 stella: ci è stato detto che il cuoco è sempre lo stesso, ma la qualità del cibo è più bassa, le porzioni più piccole, ma il prezzo invariato. Lentezza nel servizio e a specifica domanda: "è cambiata la gestione?" Ci è stato risposto di no. A domanda: "i precedenti proprietari si sono trasferiti?" Risposta: "non sappiamo nulla". Ma appena usciti li abbiamo incontrati sul marciapiede: hanno aperto un nuovo locale 10 metri più avanti!!! Mi domando perché non essere onesti con vecchi clienti e cercare di tenerseli senza raccontar bugie, ma dando un buon servizio...

Siamo stati diverse volte a La Lanterna e ci siamo trovati sempre bene, sia a pranzo che a cena. Abbiamo provato solo la cucina di pesce e siamo rimasti sempre tutti soddisfatti, sia con la famiglia che con gli amici. Hanno anche piatti di carne e pizze cotte nel forno a legna. Ottimi gli antipasti misti, le cozze, gli spaghetti al cartoccio, per non parlare dei ravioli di pesce...sublimi! La frittura è leggera e non unta, anche quella di baccalà. Porzioni abbondanti. Buon rapporto qualità prezzo per essere a Sestri Levante: ha prezzi più contenuti rispetto ai locali più centrali o sul mare, pur distando solo 5 minuti a piedi dal lungomare. Loved this restaurant. Recommended by our air bnb host, so glad we took the recommendation. Little place I never would have found myself. Make the effort to go. I had the best spaghetti with clams of my whole Italy trip. The house sparkly white wine was amazing. Definitely the reason I staggered home. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was casual and local. Lemoncello at the end of the meal made me so happy. I would go back for sure. People...
