Trattoria Picaló — Restaurant in Spongano

Probably the best restaurant we went to in Puglia, the food was amazing and the service too.

We took the straciatella ham and focaccia plate as a starter, everything was delicious and in just the right quantity for a starter. Then we had the pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs which were delicious, both the pasta and the sauce were amazing, and the squid ink ravioli which were great as well. We had an awesome , belissimo time!! Our waiter spoke some English, which was great for us american tourists, we spoke some Italian. The best food we had during our 1 month italy trip. Viste le altre recensioni avevo aspettative elevate ma purtroppo non sono state rispettate. A partire dall’antipasto, che era significativamente diverso da quanto scritto sul menu. Nonostante ci fosse l’indicazione che la disponibilità era soggetta alla stagionalità, fa un po’ sospettare che dei “formaggi locali” non ci fosse nemmeno l’ombra come pure per l’orzo (tutti piatti compresi teoricamente nell’antipasto). La pasta con le cime di rapa non ho la certezza che avesse effettivamente le cime di rapa perché c’era semplicemente una crema verde e l’unica verdura integra era un broccolo. La frittura invece era deludente, il calamaro aveva una consistenza elastica e il tutto era accompagnato da un’insalata mista secca, simile a quelle imbustate. In aggiunta il personale non comprendeva le richieste e ciò ha fatto si che venissero dimenticate alcune portate senza alcuna scusa. Infine è stato inserito nel conto un piatto mai arrivato, che per fortuna ci è stato rimosso al momento del pagamento.
