Vineria Derthona — Restaurant in Tortona

The food was excellent (apart from the bread, which was stale), but only three stars because of the service. The waiter/owner is condescending to the extreme: he talks over you and essentially tells you what to order. He then got my order wrong (presumably because he was barely listening to us) and was very supercilious when we pointed it out. He spoke to us in English in a very patronising manner even when we were trying to talk in Italian (I understand if our Italian is bad, but that doesn't excuse his rudeness). The other waiter (a woman who was lovely) also made mistakes, and everything took a very long time to come. But the food was really very good - only go if you can bear the bad service. We decided to cut it short and not to stay for dessert and went to the gelateria a few streets...

We loved this place! The owner was so attentive and fun. He joked with us that we didn’t speak Italian and about being American but was nice and just really a great host. The food was very good…I’m more basic but my meal was fantastic. Not a kid place unless they are very well behaved. The ravioli and the tagliatelle with pumpkin were both 5*. My Pinot Gri was like a sparkling rose and fabulous. When I asked if it was local he said, no but close. About 15 km away. Lol. Pretty local to me! My husband loved the Montefalco. The interior has the most gorgeous rounded ceilings and was intimate and charming. ...

Siamo tornati in questo ristorante con il ricordo positivo della prima volta, soprattutto per il dessert che ci era rimasto impresso. Purtroppo questa esperienza non è stata all’altezza delle aspettative.

Antipasti: i fiori di zucca con salumi e fichi ci hanno deluso. Troppo unti e poco gradevoli, serviti con salumi e fichi separati come tre piatti slegati, senza armonia.

Primi e secondi: la qualità non è stata migliore. Piatti pesanti, con troppo burro e olio, cucinati in modo approssimativo. Eravamo in quattro e tutti abbiamo lasciato metà porzione nel piatto, cosa che non ci era mai successa. La cameriera, vedendo i piatti a metà, ha liquidato la cosa dicendo che “sono abbondanti”, quando invece il vero problema era la qualità, non la quantità.

Dessert: era l’unico ricordo piacevole della prima volta e abbiamo pensato di dargli fiducia. La cameriera ci ha spiegato che rimaneva solo una piccola quantità, non del gusto che avevamo chiesto, ma che il ristorante ce l’avrebbe offerta come cortesia. Abbiamo accettato, ma dopo mezz’ora di attesa, con continue promesse “arriva subito”, è arrivato un dolce scarso e lontanissimo dalla qualità che ricordavamo.

Il conto: purtroppo la nota più amara. Alla cassa hanno cercato di addebitarci del vino che non avevamo mai ordinato (prima “in borraccia”, poi “a calice”). Dopo aver chiarito che avevamo preso solo acqua, ci è stato comunque fatto pagare il dessert, nonostante la cameriera lo avesse dichiarato più volte come offerto. Questo atteggiamento, più che il prezzo, ci è sembrato poco professionale.

Il locale: senza condizionatore e con molte zanzare, il contesto ha reso la cena ancora meno piacevole.

Non torneremo. Chi già lo conosce sappia che non è più come una volta; chi pensa di provarlo per la prima volta, valuti bene e legga con attenzione le recensioni...
